4.1 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
UPDATED: NOV 16, 2004 2004- Aroma is apricots, peaches, and other dark fruits with a slight touch of alcohol. Very rich and filling, slight alcohol warming to it. Taste is maple, alcohol and fruit.
2003- Extreme maltiness, I’m not one who loves strong ales, but this one was pretty good. Fruity flavor, with some sweet accents.

Beat me over the head with a rubber chicken! This beats ruination for palate slaughter, fer sure! Red color, tan head. Clear. Carmel and hop aroma. Big, chewey, malty hoppy flavor. Lingers. Massive bitterness that lingers even to the next day. Hop flowers, BABY! Special thanks to Eyedrinkale.

4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 17/20
A red beer with a small disappering head. The aroma is sweet malty with notes of berries. The flavor is great; totally dominated by hops but combined with berries and roasted notes (chocolate?). A wonderful beer. Thanks to Mads Berg for sharing this.

3.9 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Good hoppy aroma with some malt and roastiness. Beautiful amber color with a good tan head. Very clear. This is a very thick and chewy beer. Good malt base with some roast malt sticking out followed by a goodly amount of bittering. The bitter/roast flavor lingers on the back of the tongue. There is a lot going on in this beer. Damn good!

UPDATED: NOV 16, 2005 22 oz 2003 bomber: poured into a tulip glass. cloudy ruby color with a tan creamy head. smells like hops, citrus fruits. slight coffee/stout aroma too, which is interesting. alittle alcohol, too. this beer is really dank. almost like a barley wine. thick stick feels great in my mouth. not too bitter. oooh, i really like this. tastes alittle like coffee and choclate, buttery caramel, very malty and nutty and pretty hoppy, too. really full, rich beer, oh yeah. toffee toffee rambunctiosness.

4.2 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
2003 bottle. Brownish red color, little head retention. Floral nutty hop nose. Smooth, malty, fruity (cherry, dried dark fruits) with a super hop kick coming in midway through the taste and lasting past the swallow. Finally rated this after many bottles over the past couple of years.

4.2 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
UPDATED: NOV 14, 2006 2003 bomber. Pours thickly. Deep, rich garnet color. Nice white head, good lacing. Aroma is sweet, raisins, caramel, fruit. Sweet malt taste and a nice slow hop finish. Damn nice brew. I like this over the original Bastard. Will be seeking more of these for future usage.9/59418<P> Well, two years later at the Hall of Justice..... ’06 bottle consumed Nov. 06. Medium brown colored, a bit of ruby mixed in. Decent tannish head forms and fades at a moderate rate. Decent lacing left behind. Aroma is intensely malty, nice hits of booze, as the beer warms there is a distinct iso-amyl acetate presence. Medium bodied and decently carbonated. Full malty and sweet characteristics up front with a more than ample hop backing in the finish. Still quite a decent beer, I wouldn’t feel bad about making this a regular. Original ratings drop a bit but still a fantastic beer! 9/4/8/4/17

4.3 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 18/20
Pours a deep rich amber color, with a frothy tan 2 finger head that dissipates with some nice thin lacing. Lightly sparkling carbonation is present in a thin line of bubbles constantly coming up. This is one big muther of a beer!! The Bastard on steroids, with aromas of caramel, choclate covered cherry and espresso hints. Hints of raisin and plum come through at the end, along with clove and a pleasing alcohol finish. The 100+ IBU's are evident at first taste, then bittersweet maltiness takes over with a nice warming alcohol finish. This offering is imminently more drinkable than it's little brother, which is scary considering the 10% ABV. The one peculiararity is this beer seems to taste smoother a few degrees cooler than other high ABV beers. This is one of the best Stone has to offer. You could form a religion around this beer!!!

UPDATED: APR 25, 2004 22 oz. bottle, 2003:
Pours deep amber with a small head. Aroma of malt, alcohol, and slight grapefruit. Tons of tastes going on, hops, sweet malt, grapefruit, and caramel. Has the mouthfeel of a barleywine, heavier than expected.
