COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
This is a lacerative muther of a beer. The evil big brother of Arrogant Bastard Ale. It is strongly suggested you stay far, far away from this beer. Those foolish enough to venture close enough to taste will experience a punishingly unforgiving assault on the palate. íCourse thereís always the masochists...

Tropical fruit, coconut hoppy aroma.Sweet fruity pinapple, mango peach flavors balanced by medium hops.Hid the alcohol very well. It was actually smoother to drink than regular bastard.

*2002 edition* Nice deep red color with a diminshing, tan head. Minimal lacing. Lots of sweetness in the nose with tiny hint of hops. Malt and syrup in the flavor. Could have used a few more IBU to balance all of the malt. High alcohol is masked well. Impressive beer. Iím sure a higher rating would be warranted if I had this on tap. AB is better on tap too.

This beer rocks. The aroma is very malty with huge notes of pineapple, evergreen, earth and alcohol. A beautiful beer!!! Sparkling clear ruby hue. Large, beige, frothy head with decent lacing. Mostly diminishing. The flavor is very malty and syrupy-sweet up front. Moderately bitter and lightly pungent on the backside. Strong hop presence and warm alcohol throughout. Thereís not as much actual flavor as I expected from a highly rated Stone beer, especially since I was taunted on the back of the bottle. Full-bodied with an oily mouthfeel. Light carbonation. Long, bitter, dry finish. Hey, this is a good, not great beer. Not as good as many beers rated far below it... I guess you would call that the Stone Factor. I was a little disappointed. Hey, the score I gave it ainít bad even though this bottle was one of Stoneís weaker offerings. This actually says a lot about Stone Brewing as a leader within the craft-brewing industry.

Beautiful red, flashy and delicious beer. I drank it out of a large wine type glass which complemented it nicely. Fine lined lace around the rim of glass. This is a slap in the face beer and beautiful to look at. The only that soured my rating was a little stuffed up nose which led to a satisfactory aroma rating. Maybe Iíll re-rate it on a better day. Definitely a worthy beer for a worthy drinker.

Ahh...I feel satisfied by the Bastard. Beautiful amber appearance, strong head and a powerful aroma filled with maltiness, hops, and yeast. Flavor is very hoppy, the spiciness of them lasting long after the beer has gone down the throat. This is a strong beer that demands respect. The flavor changes as it warms in your mouth. A well hopped yet well balanced recipe. I might buy another bottle and let it age for a few years. There are definite possibilities... Just try it and you wonít be let down.

UPDATED: AUG 5, 2008 2001 edition sampled 7/5/02: Fruity/alcohol aroma, flat transparent brown which was sort of metallic, fruity esters jump out at first followed by overpowering alcohol and a mellow tartness...alcohol kicks your ass but hoppy fruitiness keeps the alcohol in check till the end where it comes back and sucker punches you in the back of the head..the alcohol is too strong and I couldnít finish the whole bottle..as the beer warmed a more subtle burnt sugar/carmel flavor came out... 2002 edition: hoppy necatarines injected with alcoholic heroin..creamy hops and solid backbone malts ride along on this magnificant rollercoaster ride from hell..either my tastes have changed or this batch is a few steps up from last years...gOodie goodies. rerate 2006- 2008 Not as good as it used to be, i dont think.

Appealing fruity, lightly berryish malty aroma, along with a whiff of alcohol and citric hop. Clear, bright red color with a rather slight head and little visible effervescence. Flavor has a nice balance of sweetly fruity malt, piney, lightly citrusy hop and warming alcohol. The malt is present in enough quantity to render the lip of the glass sticky with sweetness, while the generous hop addition provides an omnipresent yet pleasant bitterness, both in flavor and palate. Aftertaste is alcoholic and spicy, and finish is long, drawn out and hoppy. I would drink this on a regular basis if I could find it here. Hits the spot!

UPDATED: APR 8, 2003 2002 edition - deep orange, big head and excellent lacing. Taste is thick and smooth. From begining til end, the strong assertive flavors battle it out in my mouth. Sweeter than expected malts and a nice huge bitterness.
