topherh (878), Kearney, Missouri, USA Dec 10, 2008 2008 22oz bomber. Pours a mohogany color. Aroma is strong citrus hops, lots of sweet malt . Flavor is bitter then ripe fruit and sugar, with a bitter finish. mugabe (215), Sweden Dec 8, 2008 Bottle. Dark amber, medium head. Vinous smell of plum, spice and some hoppy grass. Sweet, thick mouthfeel, rather intense flavour. Sugary flavour without really much to it, but which finds redemption in the nice spicy hop-bitter finish. afireinside96 (807), Mountville, Pennsylvania, USA Dec 6, 2008 Bottle, poured into a Duvel tulip. Pours deep garnet topped by a receding beige head. Big nose of tangerine and grapefruit with a hint of sweetness. Deep penetrating bitterness is peppered with tangerine, resinous pine, grapefruit, and chewy bready malt flavors. Lasting finish. Very good. CaryTheDude (1113), Longmont, Colorado, USA Dec 5, 2008 Crushed with Jakebra. One of the best Ive ever had. Perfect balance and awesome hoppy finish. Have nothing else to say. One of my all time favorites right away. Knocked me out. killjoy966 (215), Washington, USA Dec 5, 2008 The big brother to the oh-so-Arrogant Bastard. Never tasted the two side-by side, but that is OK because this beer is fantastic. Smells heavenly and hoppy. First taste warms you up right quick with a fairly bitter alcohol-flavored finish. Absolutely ruinous on the palate but I kind of like that. And now I am done because my post needs to be shorter. Hophead22 (1056), Redlands, by way of Wisconsin,, California, USA Dec 5, 2008 22oz bottle. Beautiful mahogany color with a nice white head and good lacing. Nice deep hop aroma, with some nice malty balance. Very rich flavor, well balnced and delicious. ilovedarkbeer (1326), Dallas, Texas, USA Dec 5, 2008 Bottle from BMan1113VR. Brilliant and clear red colored pour with a yellow head. Nose is passion fruit, caramel, slight banana and dark candi sugar. Taste is sweet, with many of the same components from the nose mixed with a dark tree fruit taste. Smooth and balanced mouthfeel, with a decent back end bitterness that is not overwhelming. Skeegle (476), Maryland, USA Dec 4, 2008 Mmmm. FINALLY! I have looked yonder mountains and in the wee shops of whoville for this stuff and alas! the search is fruitful. I feared the bottle would implode and cease to exist once I opened it. But nay. Mmmm. Double Bastard. This really tasted like a barley wine to me. Except sweeter. Which was bizarre. But it was great none the less. Lots of flowery bouquet notes with a definite dark raisiny cheek watering bite. Well worth the wait.
