oh6gdx (8802), Vasa, Finland Sep 29, 2008 Bottled@Akkurat. Deep murky copper coloured with small beige head, that stays for quite a while. Aroma is full of fruits, wood, nectar and mild notes of syrupy sweetness as well as some notes of alcohol. Flavour is quite much the same along with some vanilla and mild plummy notes too. Rather sweet for most of the part, but also some bittering notes preventing the sweetness to totally take over. Really pleasant! Proteus93 (66), Charlottesville, Virginia, USA Sep 28, 2008 Poured into a standard Stone pintglass. A deeper, murky amber pour. About the perfect line of head which rose just over the brim.
Full of citrus and pine scents. A beautiful, complex aroma of soft and sweet maltiness backbone, moderately toasted, some floral like scents.
Man, this is smooth and rich. The body of this is everything I love in the feel of a beer. Pretty much perfect in the feel. The bitter hoppiness is there, but they are amazingly balanced with a soft, and slightly sweet backbone. I find myself pondering over how wonderfully smooth it is again. Stone has created something of a masterpiece with this beer, with a near perfect blend of flavours. The alcohol is certainly there, but it continues to be quite an easy drinker considering. Thumbs up, and certainly recommended.
yumyum (118), barrie, Ontario, Canada Sep 28, 2008 Updated: May 18, 2009overall very nice brew. reminds me of a higher alcohol version of ommegang abbey ale? very fruity on the nose, taste is moderately sweet, dried fruits, alcohol is slightly noticeable but not offensive. Nice finish. would definitly buy again. whereas ommegang abbey is more drinkable this has the higher alcohol. both great brews awiseman01 (318), Indianapolis, Indiana, USA Sep 23, 2008 Updated: Apr 14, 20092006 Bottle, shared w/ and compliments of danielcurtis81. Simply put: AB Amplified. This was this first time I’ve tried DB so I’m curious to try it fresh and compare to this aging. Got lots of hops and lots of dry roasted malts. Excellent character to please the aquired craft taste. kimcgolf (824), Dacula, Georgia, USA Sep 20, 2008 Pours to a murky reddish brown with a slight off-white head that lingers to about quarter-glass and leaves okay lacing. Aroma is malty raisin with earth scents. Mouthfeel is fairly thick and sweet, with hoppy bitterness creeping in. Flavor is more malty raisin than hoppy citrus (as I had hoped), leading to a fairly bland, bittersweet finish.
I much prefer the hopped up Arrogant Bastard over his Double relative. danielcurtis81 (879), San Diego, California, USA Sep 18, 2008 Updated: Oct 26, 20082006 Edition, bottled. Every time I sample a beer that’s been wonderfully aged it reminds me to be patient although it is so hard! The aging added some very enjoyable sweetness. Poured a rich red hue. Filled the mouth with hop flavors and finishes with malt flavors and some dried fruits.
2007 Release: Much the same as the ’06. This one was fresh and didn’t have as much sweetness. I need to learn to do vertical tastings to compare. durhambeer (1187), Durham, USA Sep 18, 2008 Draft at Tyler’s. This is the biggest bastard of all. Dark copper pour with a nearly yellow head. Tons of resiny and fruity hops and caramel and sweet malts right behind in abundance with peaty notes as well. Surprisingly delicate floral notes somewhere behind the sensual assault. Sticky sweet palate, and can definitely taste the alcohol. Good, but certainly not subtle. But you weren’t expecting subtle, were you? LtDan (471), LA - Originally from South NJ!, California, USA Sep 9, 2008 Magnificent aroma, fluffy white head with a red tint to it, thick unfiltered body. Tastes of sugars, hops, spices, and dark fruits. Warms you up quick. Unless you are used to this, sip it. The hop spice goes away somewhat at the six month mark, and evolves into an even more magical brew with time.
