zeke626 (302), Minneapolis, Minnesota, USA Jun 21, 2008 Bottle, 2007 release. Pours a hazy, copper-red body with thin yellow-white head. Aroma of hops, caramel malts, and some fruit. Thick mouthfeel with a complex profile of flavors: grapefruit hops, caramel malts, molasses, citrus, and brown sugar. Green floral hops finish with a slight alcohol and aspirin aftertaste. doubleipa (224), Georgia, USA Jun 17, 2008 Huge light brown head, that lasts a long time. Aroma - heavy malt, dark bread, light hops, resin, and dough. Also allspice and pepper.Initial flavor is sweet and moderately acidic. Can really taste the alcohol. This was good, but not great. I have a few others that I’ll keep for a year or so to see what happens. KieferUGA (461), Atlanta, Georgia, USA Jun 16, 2008 22 oz. bottle. 2007 vintage. Pours a dark, leather color. Small, thin white head. Aroma of dark fruits, molasses, citrus hops. Very thick mouthfeel. Flavor is a wonderful explosion of hop resin, raisins, caramel malt. Long bitter finish with strong warming alcohol notes. Outstanding beer, wish we could get it in Atlanta. texasbartender (160), Sugarland, Texas, USA Jun 11, 2008 The beer pours an amber red with a thin quickly disappearing head. The nose is a thick mix of sweet malts (dark fruit and berries) with a dry hop. The flavor is big but simple. It is defiantly hoppy but with a good balance from the sweet malts. The finish is a sweet hop that last for days. dchmela (1411), Orlando, Florida, USA Jun 9, 2008 Thanks to Taverner for the bottle. Pours a caramel brown with a thick tan head. Big hops, caramel, malt, citrus aroma. Sharp pungent hop taste with a thick malty backbone. Medium spicy body. This is not for the faint of the taste bud and pretty much reduced all beers tasted afterward to wimpiness. Awesome brew. hoppopotamus (182), Santa Cruz, California, USA Jun 4, 2008 Delicious looking beer. Pours a hazy dark reddish copper with a modest orangy-tan head that leaves lacing. The aroma is a nice combination of sweet caramel maltiness balanced by a fair amount of fruity and piney hops. The flavor of this beer hits close to the full spectrum of tastes I love in beer. It starts with a sweet caramel maltiness which gives way to darker roast barley notes and finishes with a dry bitter hoppiness. The only thing that kept it from a 10 in flavor was the alcohol heat overpowers the hop finish a bit. Regardless, this is a fantastic brew. DSG (1501), Tel Aviv, Israel Jun 1, 2008 2007 bottle. Very dark amber color with a big and slowly-diminishing beige head. Juicy hoppy nose with lots of citrus and some pine and some malty, a bit cookie-ish, notes. Flavor is malty and sweet with caramel, biscuits, hints of bread and lots of hops, which are later getting intense, leading to a very bitter finish with some grapefruit and oranges and mild tongue-tickling alcohol notes. Body is quite full and the mouthfeel is oily. This one is nice! carl4beer (394), Fairfax Station, Virginia, USA May 31, 2008 22 oz. 2006 release. not sure how i have yet to rate.... anyways. pours deep copper with small dissipating head. aroma is huge sweet caramel malt. mouthful is huge malt that starts to fade to a nice bitterness but then is overtaken by the alcohol. not the best finnish. i had had a couple stone age with big abv finishes... i think i would rate a fresh btl higher cuz i do not recall such an alcohol finnish.
