3.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 18/20
Pours a deep amber with a little off-white head and average lacing. Aroma is sweet with hints of dark fruits, toffee, vanilla, oak and a little brown sugar. Taste follows the nose with a mixture of everything from the aroma initially but then the hops try to shine through but it is a futile attempt. The malt is running the show here but that is to be expected with such a high abv. Medium to full bodied with low to moderate carbonation and a somewhat dry finish. Alcohol is noticeable but not in an off putting way. Having said that, be careful because this beer packs one hell of a punch. Next on the agenda is a growler of Stone’s Espresso Imperial Russian Stout so my liver is going to take a beating.

Pours a clear caramel with a slightly tan head. Aroma is a big sweet malty. Booze, dark fruits. Taste is on the sweet side. Raisins, syrup. Medium-full body and low carbonation. Syrupy texture. Overall a huge beer. Best shared. Cheers!

4.2 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 18/20
A pretty dark amber beer with a foamy white head. Smells of caramel and hops. This is a very intense beer, with an overpowering caramel flavor, almost like burnt caramel, with a syrupy feel. The bitterness starts light, but then quickly grows stronger. Like Stone’s Ruination IPA, I found this a bit too much, but at the same time I really enjoyed sipping this over a two hour period. Not for the faint of heart, that’s for sure.

4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
rusty amber color with a few tan bubbles; smells like whiskey, raisins, toffee, leather.... Nice alcohol warmth blending with intense caramel, vanilla, dark fruit and toasty bitterness; lively carbonation, full flavored with just a bit of syrupy mouthfeel. Brash bastard.

3.8 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
640mL bottle bottled on 10/18/13
Deep copper body, holds a dense off-white head.
Serious aroma; substantially woody/piney hop presence, cooked citrus, dried fruits, rich grainy malts and caramels with a spicy alcohol note.
Big thick oily palate, medium carbonation, seriously long palate.
A brutal assault on the palate follows...
Lots of woody hop spice, lots of caramel malts, lots of bitterness, lots of alcohol.
Lacks subtlety, alcohol on finish is a bit too obvious and warm, probably the lesser of their big name beers...still good though!

4.4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 19/20
This beer (2013) doesn’t hide the alcohol but that isn’t a big point. It looks great and tastes even better. The aroma is hard to pin down as the alcohol kinda masks the hops a did and you get thick bready malts. So far so good. The taste is earthy hops and beautiful candied caramelized toffee and a roasty nuttiness. along with a good doses of hops. Delicious beer. well done. (again)

3.7 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 13/20
22oz bottle dated 9-26-2013, just over 4 months old, aged at cellar temp as instructed by the bottle. Pours a clear reddish amber with lasting foamy head and great lacing. Aroma is ripe fruits, candy sweet malts, earthy, cherries, and cheesecake. Taste is very sweet and malt forward for a few seconds until the hops come around and balance it out. Hops and alcohol burn mildly in the end. Ends bitter and dry. I have been burned by over-aged beers that turn into malt bombs and this is leaning towards that side of the taste spectrum. I suspect fresh this would be much better. Alcohol is appropriately evident for the ABV, with a mild burn and taste.

3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
22 oz bottled over 4 months ago from Evergreen Discount into my NBB globe glass. Dark amber-reddish and hazy appearance with a large, light tan head, slowly diminishing, moderate lacing. Aroma of alcohol, caramel, toffee, pine, earth, bitter hops, toasted malts and light fruit. Similar flavor, strong hop bitterness, medium malt sweetness and lots of alcohol. Pretty full body with a dry feel and a boozy, lingering, bitter finish. Pretty good, a little too much alcohol coming through.

4.3 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 18/20
Bottle shared with a friend. Color: nice clear amber beer with small carbonation and medium white foam. Smell: hoppy explosion and domination. Floral and herbal nose with herbs and grass. Taste: oily sensation on mouth, with hoppy explosion with amazing bitterness. Really tasty beer with good bitterness expression. Aftertaste: strong bitterness with a dry sensation.

...alright, I’ve drank this beer for years and for some reason I never rated it. Had it on tap in California. pours a dark red to brown nice foamy head. Nose is insanely bitter, almost astringent with huge pine oil bread. Taste is just waves of assault. IBUs to the limits, boozy, bitter, bread, pine, citrus finish.
