This is a lacerative muther of a beer. The evil big brother of Arrogant Bastard Ale. It is strongly suggested you stay far, far away from this beer. Those foolish enough to venture close enough to taste will experience a punishingly unforgiving assault on the palate. ’Course there’s always the masochists...

22oz bottle pour at home with a bottle date of 10/13/15 Pours a deep copper color. Personally, the best thing about this beer is the mouthfell and the palate. Tastes like a mouthful of red and black licorice. Yet another great Stone beer

The beer pours a dark brownish amber color with a small head. The aroma has roasted malts, licorice and booze. Taste is big with a balance of caramel sugar, molasses and orange. The finish has some mild bitterness and mild alcohol. Good beer.

650ml bottle. 2015 edition. (11% ABV) Pours a hazy copper with a large, frothy, long lasting, beige head that laces nicely. Sweet, roasted aroma of caramel malt, overripe fruit, alcohol and piney hops. Sweet flavour of roasted malt, caramel, dried fruit, spices, booze, pine resin and grass with a dry, bitter, hoppy finish. Full body with an oily texture and soft carbonation. Excellent, the name delivers as promised.

Appearance: clear deep amber with one fat finger of fluffy light tan head, medium retention and patchy lacing. (4/5) Aroma: pine, citrus, toffee, dried fruit, coffee & chocolate, alcohol, tobacco & leather, earthy. (9/10) Taste: moderate-high sweet, strong bitter. (9/10) Palate: full slick and oily body, moderate carbonation, lingering boozy bitter finish. (5/5) I waffled a little scoring this one. The flavours (particularly the hops) are somewhat overshadowed by the massive maltiness and ABV, so it’s not simply “Arrogant Bastard times two” - the balance and interplay of flavours are completely different. (That’s not to denigrate the value of a boozy big bastard, mind you.) However, the other factor here is that a lot of the complexity and depth of flavour - and there’s a lot - is overshadowed by the big malt and ABV, so to some extent it doesn’t completely succeed, even on its own terms. When I first reviewed this, I opined that it might benefit from a greater hop presence, but even in a relatively fresh example, the hops are massively overshadowed by the the malt and alcohol. Still, for all that, it’s lots of fun and actually a darn sight better than the Depth-Charged version I tried recently. (18/20)

Hazy deep copper pour. Off white head. Aroma of dried fruits, mild oxidation resulting in sherry notes. Full bodied, creamy. Sherry, dried fruits, wet wood, pine bitter finish. Alcohol is well integrated. Nice big one. 2013 edition.

Mahogany brown color, beige head. Caramel nose, wood, hint of coffee, sharp notes, grass. Sweet taste, caramel, dried fruit, wood, alcohol. Full body, soft carbonation, oily texture. A bit too heavy and powerful.

From the bottle the pour is cloudy brown with an off white/brown shaded head, the aroma is toffee caramel and dried apricots or maybe pineapple some sort of fruit, the taste deep your caramel notes definitely some coffee on the front and there’s just a little bit of hops to brighten your taste buds and then it finishes roasted and malty Carmel.

Rating #1456 - 01.02.2015 - Bottle from @beerblast. Pours a copper amber, and exudes hoppiness right from the get go, powerful citrusy, grainy, fruity hops on the nose. Medium heavy carbonation, huge alcohol warmth. ABV not well disguised by hop character - foolishly absurd malty sweetness trainwrecked by aggressive bitterness, and punishing alcohol. Borderline stupid, and doesn’t hold a candle to its true champion little brother.
