COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
This is a lacerative muther of a beer. The evil big brother of Arrogant Bastard Ale. It is strongly suggested you stay far, far away from this beer. Those foolish enough to venture close enough to taste will experience a punishingly unforgiving assault on the palate. ’Course there’s always the masochists...

A slightly hazy ruby color with a small amount of white head that sticks around the rim. Smells of sweet honey, malt, honey biscuit, a little pine. A nice smooth sweet taste, honey biscuit, a mild bitter, good mesh of tastes. A good representation of the style. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

UPDATED: MAR 10, 2014 22oz bottle poured into a Stone specialty IPA glass (a hybrid between a flute and snifter). Where to start with the nose on this one ... well, I guess, at the start. The first aromas I picked up were that of vanilla and caramel primarily. After a little bit, some dark berry aromas start coming through followed shortly thereafter by a hint of nuts, figs, and plums. There’s also some licorice tucked away in there. The next round of aromas had a bit of a musty and damp smell to it, but it was also accompanied by a hint of pine, wood, and honey. By the end of the drink, I was also picking up citrus, cuacao, as well as banana & clove notes. It pours a clear honey orange color with a thick, beige, sudsy head that’s in no rush to recede. A healthy, rocky lacing is left behind on the glass. A medium-high bitter (fairly moderate by Stone standards) combines with a medium malty sweetness. This full bodied beer is creamy going down; aided by an abundant, yet mellow and soft carbonation. The malty front end is a toasted caramel and roasted nut flavor with some hints of dark, meaty fruits (figs / plums). Mid mid drink, this also takes on a woodsy quality as well. Notes of pine, resin, and citrus combine for a full, but mellow bitter finish with a nice touch of bourbon-caramel alcohol warmth; it a mildly dry finish The aftertaste left behind is a balanced blend of smokey caramel, grapefruit, and resin with a touch of licorice.

From the giant bottle! Poured into a shaker. Ruby colored with a tan head. Aroma is pretty much all malt with a little bit of earthiness. Flavor starts off malt forward with sweeter notes like a red, but finishes with some earthy and piney hop notes. Fairly creamy and smooth for the ABV. Overall this reads like a nicely balanced strong red ale.

Poured from the 3l 2013 release. Very creamy thick head. Aroma has a nice balance of malty and hoppy. The malt character is biscuit y. It tastes like red malt s were used. The hops are a nice blend of slightly citrus but mostly dank and bitter! It’s bitter and I love it!

A great beer, considering how high in alcohol it has, still taste lots of hop bitterness and malty. The kind of beer you bring out when you have wine drinkers over, who think they know a lot about wine, except you may not want to share it.

Backlog, 2011. Caramel, syrup, brown sugar and raisins. The alcohol comes through together with some dried fruits and a long afternote of sweet-soaked hops.
