heylrule (46), Maryland, USA Jan 17, 2008 great aroma better than bastard. pours very dark amber. i would say you do get more of a alcohol after taste with this beer. accidenly rated this beer a .5??? michael-pollack (2606), King of Prussia, Pennsylvania, USA Jan 16, 2008 22oz. Bottle: Sweet aroma. Smells of malts, piney hops, caramel, dough, alcohol, and bread. Poured dark orange/amber in color with a small tan head that diminished quickly. Hazy. Sweet flavor. Tastes of malts, pine hops, resin hops, caramel, alcohol, and toffee. Medium body. Oily, then sticky texture. Soft carbonation. Hoppy, sweet, sticky finish. Very drinkable. wilkie (1189), Raleigh, North Carolina, USA Jan 16, 2008 Bottle, bought in some liquor store in MD. Fairly thin head, dark red-brown color, clear. Aroma is GOOD GOD. Excellent blend of floral hops and malt. I smell pine mixed with caramel, with a slight winish quality, and a bit of alcohol. Flavor is similar, very caramel, and has a good mellow-bitter hop infusion at end, somewhat sweet and slightly fruity, almost tastes like a barleywine. Has a warming alcohol aftertaste, and is truly delicious. Although, I am not sure I like it as much as Arrogant Bastard.
NOTE TO STONE: PLEASE SELL YOUR BEERS IN NC!!!! Chapel (329), Levittown, New York, USA Jan 16, 2008 This beer really wants to try to kick the crap out of you, it says so right on the bottle. Haha! Looks and smells similar to the Bastard Ale, but the taste takes it a step stronger. More malts, more hops, more alcohol, fewer apologies and even less balance. This is highly recommended for people who have liked Bastard Ale in the past. MaltOMeal (642), Land of Sugar, Texas, USA Jan 14, 2008 Updated: Feb 23, 200822 oz bomber at 2nd Houston Tasting, thanks to TexasJeep. Pours a dark, reddish-amber with an off-white head. Irregular lacing. Wow, when they say double they aren’t kidding. It’s like they put double the malt and double the hops in this bad boy! The aromas of sweet malt and hops are pronounced. The flavor was also sweet malt with citrus hops and some spices. Mouthfeel was thick and creamy with nice bitterness in the aftertaste. Really enjoyed the sample. Will definitely have to get a whole bottle for myself. Blows Arrogant Bastard away! Addition after buying and drinking a whole bottle myself: this was like a barleywine more than a strong ale. Texture was melded into that sort of peach nectar sweet creaminess one sometimes gets from a barleywine whose hops are past fresh. Love this brew.
MaliMisho (208), East Meadow, New York, USA Jan 12, 2008 This was a bastard of a beer like the name implies, with a hilarious message on the bottle. It had a strong bitter finish, even more then it’s "little brother" the Arrogant Bastard Ale. It was enjoyable, but not for the faint of heart. Hudspart (371), Hudsonville, Michigan, USA Jan 12, 2008 Bottle: A hop came over to my house last night, grew arms and legs, and punched me in the face. What a great beer. Hops of an imperial IPA without the thickness. SamGamgee (1396), Santa Cruz (La Selva), California, USA Jan 11, 2008 22oz bottle. I had the pleasure of trying this during the same session as Arrogant Bastard, and I think the comparison helped me understand there beers much more. DB has a very similar appearance, with maybe a little more honey in the body, and a slightly darker and fluffier head. The aroma is malty and pretty hoppy with lots of candied citrus; richer and more balanced than AB. The flavor is similarly balanced with massive malts, citrus hopps and a little alcohol. The way it all blends into one smooth experience really sets it above. All the flavors work well together, over a thick and slightly syrupy body. Lots of intense flavors, and you definitely can’t drink a lot of it, but the balance and smoothness hold it all together beautifully.
