ESP8307 (3), New Jersey, USA does not count Dec 18, 2007 This beer was really dark and really heavy. For me it left sort of a bitter after taste. also a def sense of carmel in there. i would def have again Magicdave6 (5383), London, Greater London, England Dec 18, 2007 Bottle huge thanks to secret santa. Aroma is hugly peachy, grassy, not much malt character, piney grassyness. Taste is more malt based, toffee but with a huge bitter backing, sort of passes me by without thinking about it. Annoyign as its a great beer but i was expecting more, like a yulesmith or something. Still one id love to have again. PhillyHomeBrew (176), Forest Hills, New York, USA Dec 17, 2007 Dark, almost opaque body topped off with light brown head. The aroma of caramel was the most dominant with a light orange scent. The flavor was a great combination of the hoppy citrus flavors that we expect from Amer. Strong Ales. There was a lot of lime, orange, and the tartness of grapefruit. On tap at Tria, Philadelphia. lukeris (5), USA does not count Dec 17, 2007 aggressively hoppy on the nose, followed by heat and caramel malt aromas. Very pretty in the glass, translucent amber. Hops once again on the palate, crisp and pine-y followed once again by the alcohol and an almost candied malt finish. radagast83 (1273), Fairfax, Virginia, USA Dec 15, 2007 22 oz bottle. I had this along with samples of Arrogant Bastard and the Oaked Bastard. Aroma is hoppy, with a roasted malt hint to it as well. Flavor is pretty distinct, without any real defined flavor sticking out. Alcohol is pretty well masked compared to what you’d expect in a 10 percent beer. Taverner (825), San Ramon, California, USA Dec 14, 2007 Updated: Nov 19, 2008Poured a deep auburn copper with a tan head into a half yard. The aroma was piney hops. The first taste, the hops hit you, then the warm mouthfeel and the malts. It’s striking at first, leaving an impression. Very good!
2008 Vintage: This one is really fresh, and fresh this beer is amazing. Full of pine and citrus TopherDrinks (96), Poughkeepsie, New York, USA Dec 14, 2007 Bomber. Pours a wonderful dark ruby red with nearly no head. Aromas whole hop flowers, resinous notes, grapefruit, caramel and sugar malts, and more citrus hops! Full mouthfeel, little carbonation. Full out assault on my taste buds. Hops, malts, hoppy malts, malty hops! Flavor is tough to decipher. No real flavor coming from the generous amount of hops, just bitterness. Starts off hoppy with a sweet bread like maltiness. Quick to follow is a certain sweetness I can’t quite put my finger on (maybe caramel) mixed with a grapefruit west coast hop bitterness. Long bitter finish with slight alcohol warming in the stomach. After taste of citrus hops lingers on your tongue and gums. Good, I really like Arrogant Bastard better. Sipper of a beer, with what is surely to be a ton of IBU’s! Had to come back, towards the end of the bottle the alcohol really comes through, changing the after taste to a fine liquor. I guess I just had to become acclimated with the IBU’s. Love this after taste. Soonah (900), Tulsa, Oklahoma, USA Dec 13, 2007 Poured a beautiful, glowing swirl of copper, brown and red. An ample off-white head developed and sat stubbornly atop the beer. Creamy and slow to dissipate the head produced average lacing. I just love the look of this beer. The aroma was sugar cookie, malts and some caramel maltiness. The citrus makes an appearance as does some alcohol. The flavor was dominated by caramelly sweet malts and a noticeable, but not at all unpleasant, alcohol heat. The citrus hops are quite mild and the pine and floral hoppiness is present, but basically overwhelmed by the sweet malts and alcohol. The mouthfeel is very nice and overall this beer a thick, hot brew that lacks balance but not personality. A great beer to sit and sip while reading a book on a cold winter’s night.
