COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
This is a lacerative muther of a beer. The evil big brother of Arrogant Bastard Ale. It is strongly suggested you stay far, far away from this beer. Those foolish enough to venture close enough to taste will experience a punishingly unforgiving assault on the palate. ’Course there’s always the masochists...

Blame it on the al-al-al-al-al-al-alcohol. Nice malt balance. My mother-in-law who doesn't like "hoppy beers" actually liked this mammoth of a beer. Thank God (or any other thing you worship) for Stone Brews. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Bottle from Total Wine. Home snifter pour is dark orange brown and murky. Small head and no lacing. The aroma is serious heavy malts, leather, burnt caramel, kind of a swampy aroma as well. Taste is big malt bomb, dark fruits, dark breads, pine, wood, and earth.. Bitter pine finish. Thick oily mouth and an almost sticky finish.

650ml bottle of 2014 edition. Dark brown with one finger tan white head. Initial deep aroma of dried fruits, raisins and dates, and sweet syrup followed by increasing tones of piny hops. Sweet taste of dried fruits and sweet black bread (sirapslimpa) followed by bitter piny hops and then finishing sweet again with an almost desert wine character as well as some almost burnt roasted flavors. Probably medium thickness to the mouthfeel and medium carbonation with very well hidden alcohol.

Growler 2L btl. Looks..Rick dark mahogany, med head. Smells.. Big sticky boozy stonefruits, thigh rich caramel, sweet. Tastes..chewy thick booze soaked hoppy stonefruits, liqueur-esque caramel.. definite alcohol, some warming heat and real bitterness muscle.

(650ml 2014 bottle @ Systembolaget) Pours clear copper with a small head of fine off white bubbles that lingers with no lace. Aroma quite malty, toffee and caramel, touch of fig pudding, marmalade hop character, pine, smells like a barley wine. Palate rich, quite sweet at first with a fair bit of bitterness, toffee, marmalade, a little dried fruit. Hops show up a lot more in the middle of the palate, lots of pine needle and resin as the bitterness takes hold. Malt core holds all the way through to the aftertaste but the bitterness is quite high by the finish, astringent, mostly pine/resin with some candied orange. Lots of hops in the aftertaste. Fairly full and oily in the mouth, very soft carb, a bit of alcohol heat. I would definitely call this an American barley wine. It’s a really good one though, nice balance, smooth and malty with enough to hold the big hop character later on in the sip.

Aroma is roasted malts, honey and caramel. Taste is all sorts of great deep malts, raisins and caramel. Thick almost chewy mouthfeel. Light creaminess and a very well balanced hop profile that is earthy and has slight clove and lemon grass notes. Appearance is a clear copper body with a medium pearl head that retains well.

2014 version, which is 11%, from Favourite Beer, Cheltenham. Deep amber colour with a beige head. Burnt caramel, malts, marmalade and alcohol aroma. Well balanced bitter sweet start with a bitter finish. Very thick palate. Love it!

On tap at Nakameguro Taproom. Served in a snifter. Deep amber color with a huge pink soapy head. Slight malt aroma with a bit of sourness present. Sweetness present on the palate from the malts with a hint of bitterness and a strong bit of alcohol present. Oily mouthfeel with a nice long smooth finish. Solid strong ale.

Medium chocolate brown, moderate foam. Caramel malt aroma with some hops, smells strong, nothing special tbh. Hop characteristic is much stronger in the flavor, spruce, tiny bit of roastiness. Bitterness lingers nicely.

Draft. Dark amber brown with small tan head. Malty caramel atoms. Big malty version of bastard. Bitterness still shine through the extra malty palette. Delicious as expected.

Good beer. Slightly more bitter and less floral or citrus than I normally like for an ipa. Worth a try for big beer lovers but won't be a regular purchase for me. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone
