3.9 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 17/20
Pours with lots of soapy foam head. Actually smells sweet to me. Taste is very malty with bitter and caramel on the end. This one starts off too sweet and malty for me but then the bitterness kicks in a good way with a twinge of caramel on the end which is strange but good too.

This is pretty much a barleywine... The fact that they don’t call it a barleywine is just a testimate to just how many f*cks stone does not give. It’s both sweet and deliciously malty and brutally hoppy... It’s pretty much everything all at the same time, but it isn’t all confused tasting..... If it were a barleywine it would be my favorite barleywine, but as it stands it’ll just be my favorite "strong ale" whatever in the hell that’s supposed to be...

Very good. Very malty. Almost like a barely wine. Probably one of my favorite strong ales.

Bottled 10/16/14. Pours a hazy chestnut color with a thick cream-colored head. Aroma is malt, honey, fig, toffee, and notable hops in the background. Flavor is caramel, toffee, little bit of fig, and a nice long hoppy finish. Drinks a lot like a Barleywine. Wow this is phenomenal. Way better than the regular arrogant bastard.

3.9 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Bottle from cellar stash sale at Corvallis Brew & Supply. 2008 vintage.A: Mahogany color with a foamy creme color head. Legs.N: Pine, licorice, star anise, toffee, leather and tobacco, some hop residuals - mostly pineapple, earth and peppercorn. Raisin, fig, woodiness, clove. T: Gigantic bitterness and sweetness. M: Medium body, fuzzy carbonation, alcohol is restrained actually. Much different than the fresh bottles I have had.O: An assertive beer. Fresh, it?s a bit of a hoppy, alcoholic mess, but at 6 years old, it?s like a bigger Bigfoot. Almost an exact comp, actually

UPDATED: JAN 17, 2015 660ml bottle (BierKompass.de) 2012 release, drunk 2015/01
Very nice barley wine aroma, sweet caramelly malts. Perfumey, but nice. Full smooth sweet palate. Massive malty palate. Nice bitter hops. Dang, this is a good barleywine. Love the balance of the hops and the malts, both components are very assertive, but not over-the-top. Drying palate makes me thirsty for more, which is a good sign.

660ml bottle (thanks FatPhil). Hazy dark copper color. Medium size, yellow head, stays. Sweet, malty, citrus, raisins, mild alcohol in aroma. Caramel, raisins, plum stones, chocolate, malts in taste. Slight fizzy carbonation which adds character to that beer. Sweet malty aftertaste. Spicy hops hopping on my tongue in aftertaste. Beautiful. Where is that 11% of alcohol? Nowhere! Fantastic!

2005 at Monkey Paw. Pours hazy reddish brown with a thin, fizzy off white head. Tastes like rich raisin, booze, and very sweet malt. Medium body and low carbonation. Smells like alcohol, woody, and sugary sweet malt, very faint hops.

Poured from a 22oz bottle into a snifter. A - Woah! Big aromas in this beer. Smells very floral and boozy. Plenty of hop bitterness present as well A - Deep amber hue--just a tad darker than the standard ABA. The lightly tanned head receded down to a thin layer of bubbles that hung out atop the brew throughout the drink. T - The attack features an array of floral notes and plenty of malty sweetness which continues through the middle of the sip. The finish features that Stone signature blast of bitter which crescendos until it comes full circle and returns to the malty and caramely sweetness. Wow. P - Such a full and rich mouthfeel. I can feel my tongue counting up the calories. The bitter finish cuts right through the richness and gives it a nice balance. O - This is a BIG beer. Very full in maltiness and extremely bitter. But it, no doubt, creates an amazing drinking experience. This beer has such large range of flavors and aromas: malty, floral, bitter, and boozy. It is extraordinarily balanced for such an intense drink. Beers this bitter may not be for everyone, but i couldn’t recommend it more. This is a supreme brew.

Taste is caramel, cereal, biscuit, oak, vanilla, malt, spice, boozy, with a bitter finish. Overall a very good beer, not huge considering the 11%, very good.

Growler from Big Hops. Deep reddish amber color, minimal head. Aroma is a little boozy, malty, not especially hoppy. A bit woody, smooth, good all around strong ale.
