3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20
(22 oz. bottle (2008) from Rum Runner)...Pours dark reddish amber with one finger of lightly amberish biege head that recedes to a thin lasting layer. Aroma of sweaty hops and pine. Some traces of caramel and vanilla underneath. Mouthfeel smooth, lightly sticky. Flavor is just big over-the-top hops - sweat and pine resin with a little bit of malt that is really buried. Just like regular Bastard, except the hops are even bigger and harsher. Big bitter finish with lingering pine and sweat. I’m a Stone fan on most things but not these Bastards.

UPDATED: SEP 7, 2009 Inviting sweet (slightly citrus?) aroma. Finish seems hoppier, more bitter than Arrogant Bastard. Great carbonation in the bottle I got. Definitely hugely alcoholic.

3.6 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 14/20
Inviting sweet aroma.
Very thirst quenching, caramel and sweet malt.
Hops not in the forefront, with a slightly bitter finish.
Sessionable, but with that ABV (that you don’t taste!) it would slow you down :)

3.6 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
UPDATED: MAY 13, 2009 Pours a hazy brown/orange color with a thick dense cream head. Smells of sweet citrus and caramel. The hops are very strong, giving tastes of citrus fruits like orange and grapefruit. Medium body with lively carbonation. Finishes bitter and lingers. A little astringent.

3.6 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
Butters Big Blowout - Pours a dark amber with white head. Fruity, malt, hops and alcohol present in the aroma. Smells like a barley wine. Same in taste, burnt finish. Nice stout.

3.6 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 14/20
Pours cloudy brown with contrasting white head that doesn’t retain too long.
Nose has brown sugar, miscellaneous candy, black tea, and dry brown paper bag smells.
On the palate is a strong malt presence that is syrupy and reminds me of caramel or other similar chewy candies, but the hops and alcohol kick in to balance it out. Overall it is a big, chewy, savory beer that is surprisingly easy to drink.

3.6 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Bottle form 07. Pours a nice dark brown color with just a little bit of a off white head. Has a grain smell to it. Has a caramel flavor with a some hoppy bitterness to it. Possibly a little chocolate on the finish there as well.

3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
UPDATED: MAY 19, 2011 a bigger bastard. way thicker mouthfeel, higher alcohol that is well hidden. not to much different that the regular, just heavier and gets you drunker. great malt and hop. seems to be double malt but not quite the double hop. great though...
still on tap at foundry. its a 2010. pretty great sort of barleywine thing going on with the hops changing, not as sharp with the age. toffee.
