This is a lacerative muther of a beer. The evil big brother of Arrogant Bastard Ale. It is strongly suggested you stay far, far away from this beer. Those foolish enough to venture close enough to taste will experience a punishingly unforgiving assault on the palate. ’Course there’s always the masochists...

Dark amber, slightly cloudy, tan head. Sweet malt and pine in the nose. Taste is bitter with slight hints of molasses or brown sugar. Finish continues with bitterness and the feel of alcohol. Lots of flavor in this one.

UPDATED: JUN 9, 2012 A: Mahogany body with a thick offwhite head. Good lacing. S: Mixture of pine and caramel malts take center stage. Some citric hop bitterness as well. T: Nicely balanced as caramel malt and pine bitterness. Again the citric notes ride in here as well and highlight the complexity of the brew. Booze shines through. M: Medium-full body. Good carbonation. Clean, bitter finish. O: The 10.5 creeps in by the end and starts to dampen the drinkability of an otherwise good beer. Will have from time to time when I see it.

Amber with a cream head, hazy. Aroma is pineapple and some citrus (I’ve noticed the pineapple before in the oaked bastard, perhaps it’s from a specific hop used in this line of beers.) Body is rather light for the style, unexpected, not syrupy really, light silk feel from the carbonation. I nice change of pace from other syrupy ASA’s. Flavor is more of a pine flavor with some citrus, huge bitterness, light caramel, but really just the right amount to keep the hops in balance. Cool

This is to me a Barley wine. The alcohol is on top of things. I usually LOVE Stone Beer, but this one is a bit unbalanced. You should share this one with a couple of friends and, i guess, with some strong cheese instead of meat.

Bottle 2011 .... Hazy reddish dark amber pour thin ring of off white head had hardly any carbonation when I opened it ..... aroma of chewy caramel hops, dark fruits, earthy and faded citrusy hops ..... taste is more on the side of a red ipa/strong ale with chewy caramel malts, faded citrusy hops, dark fruits and earthy hops ..... has a nice bitter bite to it ... mouthfeel is oily .... finish is bitter

22oz bomber poured into a large Duvel tulip glass. Pours a cloudy brown color with clear golden edges and a one inch head that leaves no lacing. I love the smell of this beer. There’s so much going on in terms of the aroma, hops, cherries, malt, dark stone fruits and some alcohol. It is 10.5% after all. The taste came up a little short in my opinion. Even after it warmed up the fruit and malt flavors weren’t as pronounced in the taste as did hops and alcohol. Still, this is a really good beer that I think can only get better with some aging.

65cl, Vintage 2011, at 10.5%Vol, exclusive American brew, thx to Secret Santa!, very complex bitter brew, bitter/sweet and slightly alcoholic/fruity, heavy, yet balanced, cloudy, small head, good brew, yet expensive!

Wonderful maltiness. Earthy. Thin beige head. Nice kick, but its well balanced. Expected more bitterness.

Dark golden color with light foam. Not very distinct aroma. Very bitter and long aftertaste.

Beautiful copper pour. Nice and clear with lots of tiny bubbles which rise to the thick white head. Sweet aroma of malt, fresh earth, hay, and booze. Thick mouthfeel. Flavor of sweet malt, pineapple, pine needles, grass with a giant hop punch in the mouth. Booze finish. I'm hardly worthy... ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone
