Lothore (226), California, USA Apr 26, 2008 A- Pours a deep blackish crimson with light bubbles escaping to the top reminding me of a guiness pour. A small but thick head reins over the top of this monster.
S- Smells oaty, earty, very similar to oaked AB. A little lighter than I would have liked.
T- The taste is sharp with huge alcohol notes interspersed with sweet malt, coffee, mixed dark fruit.
M- Thick with ample carbonation.
D- This is definitely a sipper but for how much it lets the alcohol through, I am surprised I am able to drink so much.
urnamesucks (63), New York City, New York, USA Aug 20, 2008 Super strong, but very subtle. You would think that a 10% drink would be stronger, but it was excellently balanced. Surly (17), Michigan, USA Aug 20, 2008 Dark murky copper with a hint of red. No visible carbonation. Thick one finger head. Aromas is heavy malt, spices and fruit. Smooth mouth feel which gets bubbly and bitter, followed by a pleasant taste of alcohol. After a few sips the taste gets sweeter and fruitier. JMFG (1086), Florida, USA Aug 15, 2008 Pours thickly into glass with a rich dark amber color, thin off-white head. Heavy blast of alcohol and peppery hops, sweet malts hinted at. Real sweet malty caramel taste, a lot of aggressive citric hops. The alcohol is certainly there, but doesn’t come out as much as the aroma lets on. jonno (151), Japan Aug 15, 2008 A true freak of a beer and easily the best thing I’ve tasted out of the states. At first it was a bit much for me, but the balance between the malts and the hops is otherworldly...one for the ages Avengedpoet (21), Arizona, USA Aug 13, 2008 Thanks to Rustychiles for this one.
Pours super-dark brown with no head whatsoever. Nose is all malt sweetness, very reminiscent of a Barleywine. First taste reflects that impression. Lots of dark fruit phenolics. Hop aroma is surprisingly restrained, especially for a Stone beer. Fairly balanced, could use a lot more aging. I think this sample was too young for my palate.
