Clusters were the dominant hop in the US brewing industry literally for centuries, and the forerunner of many of our modern Northwest varieties. They have a unique aroma with quite a bit of citrus and a heft of herbal goodness. Clusterf#ck features Clusters in the kettle, in the hop back, and especially in the fermenter for dry-hopping. Pilsner and honey malt form the baseline. This year’s version is a bit stronger and hoppier than last year’s... cheers to that!

Mini-growler picked up at Bier Thirty in Bown... Pours a bit hazy golden... decent white head has beautiful lacing despite the flimsy cap. Nose is a weird hop mash-up... citrus+lessor melon with a background skunky almost catty hoppiness.. pretty sharp.. the "catty" note is really jumping out... just enough pale maltiness to balance. Good bitterness with a fantastic hop flavor.. again is a bit catty with the pithy citrus/husky melon.. Zippy mouthfeel... never gives way to the EtOH... crisp and very drinkable. Very well made IPA.. I would buy this again and again if I found fresh bottles..

On Tap at the River Room, Whole Foods, Boise Hazy bright yellow. Small coarse quickly fading head. light citrusy aroma, grassy bitterness and very mild hop flavors. Bitterness at the end seemed a bit off.

Bottle. Yep...straight Cluster is right...very citrus oriented with a tiny blast of herbal bitter in the end - you can see why this was the forefront running hop forever - very easy on the palate. Worth a try, but nothing over the top here.

Bottle. Pours a slightly hazy copper color with a moderate off-white head on there. Nose has some nice citrus and resiny hop elements coming off it. Taste is nicely bitter throughout, but a slightly sweet resin element on the back end. Very nicely balanced, I think.

Got a bottle of this to have later on my Oregon trip. Drinking it now out of a wine glass. Nice white head and golden color. Pine and resin on the nose. I like single hop beers, especially as a hop plant retailer. Only slightly bitter and a good, mild hop bite. I’ve been clusterstruck. Pairing nicely with my chicken noodle stew.

Draught. This was a decent IPA that leans towards the extreme side of hoppiness.

One of the favorite beers from my recent Portland trip. This orange hued beer has a big hop aroma and the taste is really herbal and spicy with a background of citrus. Glad that Artisan Ales in Pasadena will be bringing it to SoCal soon.

Nice herbal hop nose with notes of orange, crackery malt, a little sweetness, a touch of caramel perhaps. Pours golden orange, nice creamy head and lace. Flavors of oranges and herbal hops, pleasant dry bitterness, crackery malt with a hint of sweetness. Good drinkability at 7.3%. Straightforward and pleasant.

Draught @ Brouwer’s Café:   pale golden, clear and bright, small sudsy white head, little lacing.   Soft bready and melony hop aroma.   Slight citrus peel and zest.   Moderate hops on the tongue, pale fruit and melon.   Moderate body and mouthfeel.   A bit more citrusy on the finish.   Decent little beer, a bit more fruity and less hoppy than others.   A little change of pace is nice at times.
