The Devilís Kriek employed a Flanders Red Ale base prior to the addition of 200 lbs of Bing Cherries from Mattís orchard in Duke Valley. The Devilís Kriek developed a classic Brett character typical of beers in the style and used a mixture of three yeast strains to complete itís mission to provide complexity.

Appearance is boring - drab brown with pink tones, no head or lace. Aroma is delightful with perfume, fruit, vinegar, malt. Flavorís not as interesting as aroma, but similar and good. Body is good. Fairly easy drinking with enough fruitiness to offset the sour.

UPDATED: SEP 7, 2016 375ml bottle. Vintage 2014, bottled 2015. Tasting with Jamey. Pours a brown reddish with a white head. Aroma is funky with cherry notes. Taste is sour, very acidic, with cherry notes. Not bad, but too acidic and hence very overpriced. Meh.

Bottle share, thanks to Toby. Deep red color with a thin ring on top. Nose is chock full of cherries, sweet and sour. Fruity sweet and sour tart flavors, quite a bit of cherry comes through with the funk. Really nice.

375 ml bottle. Pours a translucent dark red color with a small pink head that disappearsesty quickly. Slightly funky cherry aroma. Big zesty funkaliscous sour cherry flavor upfront. Tart and fruity with a noteable alcohol prescence. Obvious Brett nuances. Hints of sourdough bread, dark fruit, goat cheese and lemon pepper seasoning. Unlike many Belgian Kriek beers, this has a lot more alcohol punch. Complex and interesting.

2013 bottle. Pours clear amber with a touch of red and lots of bubbling along the glass. Small, thin off-white head with a touch of pink that disappeared quickly. Aroma of yeast funk mixed with tart cherry. Medium body, oily. Long finish with a light astringency to the finish. Lactic sour note up front, followed by tart cherry. Some yeast funk returns at the back.

Appearance: pours with a tiny peach head that quickly dissipates, the beer is a very maroon to orange to brown color, so cloudy you canít see thru the glass Aroma: has a subtle Aroma, cherry, egg, Taste: assertive sourness, funky, cherry, Palate: soft carbonation, heavy mouthfeel, sour aftertaste Overall: delicious, hides the abv shockingly well, has a very full warm feel to it, sour but not intensely so compared to some sours, this was a 2014 bottled 6/29/15 rated on 12/16/15 Another rating of 2013 version bottled on 7/9/14 tasted on 12/16/15: possibly a bit darker in color with a bit more cherry on the aroma, maybe a bit more bitter

500 ml bottle
The final bottle of the tasting took things in a different direction with a Pacific Northwest take on the sour cherry beer. More of an American version than a true kriek, it tastes a bit like an amped up Flanders red ale with a local flair. If you like moderately sour beers that have nice depth pick up a bottle despite the price tag.

Aroma / Appearance - A reddish cloudy body shimmers at it soaks up all the light like a sponge. Mild funk, cherries, and middle of the road chocolate all filter through a creamy gentle head that provides some contrast to the darker core.

Flavor / Palate - Cherries, chocolate, and a gentle sourness tingle as they cross the plane of the tongue. The harshness doesnít go into either vinegar territory (like a Belgian kriek) or sweet territory (like Belgian Red) but falls somewhere in the vein of the Bing cherries that constitute most of its profile. In fact if you were to puree a batch of them it might taste similar. Personally Iíd rather have the bag fresh from the local farmerís market but this wasnít a total disappointment.

Bottle... Pours murky and blood-red with light brown highlights. The fruity aroma features raspberries and cherries, accompanied by less significant notes of damp-oak funkiness, milk chocolate and acetone. Full-bodied and thick with adequate carbonation. Tastes like a blend of old, sour, dry red wines accompanied by rumors of chocolate and caramel. Finishes tart and toasty. Bottle courtesy of newcigarz!
