The “IRA”, as it’s known around here, marries a ruby red color and rich body with the hop flavors of an IPA. Our unique ale yeast strain adds a delicious layer of complexity. One of the first beers we made, and an enduring favorite. Brewed with Gambrinus Organic Pilsner malt, imported crystal malt, Simcoe and Brewers’ Gold hops. 6.5% ABV, 60 BU

Pretty heady pour. Piney hops, heavy in the back of the throat but not a massive aroma. Ok balance but I like bigger flavor. It was ok. Ninkasi blows this one flat.

Pours a slightly hazy pale red orange with an initial large off-white head. Aroma of malts and light pine and floral hops. Flavor sweet caramel malts and quite a bit of both grapefruit and pine hops.

Good balance between the malts (mainly crystal?) and the hops. Not too hoppy or malty. Doesn’t wow, but is nicely done and complex.

On tap and poured into a shaker. The aroma is a floral, orange, and toast combination. The color is hazy amber topped with a medium thin ring of soapy, dense head with thin puffs of surface. An above average lace is left behind. The taste is a medium high sweet medium bitter. The texture is a sticky oily quality with a medium full body and light fuzzy carbonation. Citrus, caramel, and toast come through on the crisp and dry finish. The aftertaste is toasty with notes of caramel and bread.

500ml bottle pours amber in color with a 2 finger white head that leaves some nice lacing on the glass. Aroma is earthy with some citrus and pine and caramel. Taste is a grapefruit and pine hop bitterness with a caramel malty sweetness finishing with some earthy tones. Medium bodied with nice carbonation. An enjoyable IPA that I recommend to others.

UPDATED: NOV 24, 2014 Draft - Earthy, sweet caramel and hops. Cloudy copper with a decent white head. Cardboard and resin, not fresh. I am not reviewing fairly as I can taste the age, so will attempt to try again. Draft - Not Much different than the original. Colour is clear copper. Hops are a bit fresher, but still on the earthy muted side.
