The “IRA”, as it’s known around here, marries a ruby red color and rich body with the hop flavors of an IPA. Our unique ale yeast strain adds a delicious layer of complexity. One of the first beers we made, and an enduring favorite. Brewed with Gambrinus Organic Pilsner malt, imported crystal malt, Simcoe and Brewers’ Gold hops. 6.5% ABV, 60 BU

Bottle. Pours a clear reddish amber color with a moderate light tan head on it. Nose is fairly hoppy, but smells bitter and earthy. Taste is bitter, but doesn’t seem all that fresh to me. Ok, but nothing terribly interesting.

slightly sulfuric and mineral-y taste and smell. a little vegetal aroma as well. taste is a more one-dimensional bitterness from the hops and a very husky malt flavor. not nearly enough caramel to call this a "red" and even the color could let this be considered a normal IPA. Reds are one of my favorite styles because of the usually tropical hop contributions and the sweet caramel malts. this was more like a light copper IPA that doesn’t have the complex hop character and aroma you need in an IPA these days.

It took a while for me to finally try this beer. I am happy that I did. The taste was good, but nothing amazing. The cool thing was, I got to drink it out of a beaker.

Very deep red color and sweet citrus aroma. This beer has a bit of bitterness but is well balanced by a strong malt flavor. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

On tap @ Provisions Market. Amber/copper pour with a soapy off-white head. Aroma is huge pine and resin hop aromas. Caramel malt, grapefruit peel, and a bit of woody herbs. Nice. Flavor is a bit sweet up front with a strong bitterness to follow. Tons of pine, wood, herb, and resin character. Moderate grapefruit and some sweet caramel.

50cl bottle pours with a clear copper body that supports an inch tall light tan head of foam. The aroma has sweet sugary malts and some various light maltiness such as Pilsner, Caramunich and maybe others. I’m getting basically zero hops in the nose. Way at the end of a deep draw is a faint sweet fruitiness. The taste starts soft briefly with sweet malts, a bit of grainy malts, some Pilsner malts and then crumbs of biscuit like maltiness. The hops hit a moment later and seem to lean toward bitter Noble like hops as well as some pine, a light floral hoppiness, then a bit citrusy and spicy too. OK, all kinds of hops seem to come through in the taste. Interesting.
