The “IRA”, as it’s known around here, marries a ruby red color and rich body with the hop flavors of an IPA. Our unique ale yeast strain adds a delicious layer of complexity. One of the first beers we made, and an enduring favorite. Brewed with Gambrinus Organic Pilsner malt, imported crystal malt, Simcoe and Brewers’ Gold hops. 6.5% ABV, 60 BU

UPDATED: NOV 24, 2014 Draft - Earthy, sweet caramel and hops. Cloudy copper with a decent white head. Cardboard and resin, not fresh. I am not reviewing fairly as I can taste the age, so will attempt to try again. Draft - Not Much different than the original. Colour is clear copper. Hops are a bit fresher, but still on the earthy muted side.

Draught @ random pizza place, Portland, OR

Pours amber red with a smooth head. Aroma of caramely malts, toffee, hops and syrup. Taste is malty, sweet and caramely with some toffee and grassy hops. Finish is sweet, malty and sticky with some off flavors. Feels a bit unbalanced and unclean.

Hazy light amber color. The aroma doesn’t deliver. Light mouthfeel, light malts, correct bitterness.
Entry level.

Thanks to 5000 for sending this bottle my way. Red pour with a large off-white head. The aroma is a mix of grass and toffee with a hint of pine thrown in. The flavor is a bit more hop forward. I get some pine and light orange citrus notes as well as a good dose of caramel and toffee malt. Medium mouthfeel and medium carbonation.

Bottle. Pours a clear reddish amber color with a moderate light tan head on it. Nose is fairly hoppy, but smells bitter and earthy. Taste is bitter, but doesn’t seem all that fresh to me. Ok, but nothing terribly interesting.

slightly sulfuric and mineral-y taste and smell. a little vegetal aroma as well. taste is a more one-dimensional bitterness from the hops and a very husky malt flavor. not nearly enough caramel to call this a "red" and even the color could let this be considered a normal IPA. Reds are one of my favorite styles because of the usually tropical hop contributions and the sweet caramel malts. this was more like a light copper IPA that doesn’t have the complex hop character and aroma you need in an IPA these days.

It took a while for me to finally try this beer. I am happy that I did. The taste was good, but nothing amazing. The cool thing was, I got to drink it out of a beaker.
