3.4 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
Very similar to Ninkasi's Believer Double Red (although a little less malty) this beer features some nice toasty malt with a hop profile similar to an ipa. A great hybrid style that keeps things interesting.

3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
Appearance: slightly hazy medium amber with two fingers of rocky ivory head diminishing quickly to a thin skim, moderate lacing. (4/5) Aroma: caramel, pithy grapefruit and orange peel, cedar, tropical fruit. (7/10) Taste: moderate sweet, moderate-high bitter. (7/10) Medium slightly oily body, moderate carbonation, off-dry medium duration slightly spicy finish. (3/5)
A little elderly, perhaps, but the slightly higher ABV seems to have provided some measure of protection. The intention here is pretty clear: marry the characteristics of sweet malty red ales with those of IPAs. The execution is… slightly less clear. Although bitter and sweet are not necessarily antagonistic, they can be tough to balance - one or the other seems to always win out. In this case, malt is clearly dominant. On the plus side, the SImcoe hops don’t taste skunk or catty, so there’s that. (14/20)

500 ml bottle purchased and consumed near th brewery in Oregon. 65 IBU
A fine looking ale with a brilliant copper colored body and beige head.
Malty and hoppy aroma precedes a solidly hoppy flavor with a faint malt in the background.
Medium body, carbonation and (for an IPA) bitterness.

3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 13/20
Clearly this is better than their hop lava offering i had yesterday. Still has a grainy, seeded crust aroma and taste to go along with sweet orange, lime, ... man, the citrus is very nice. Creamy feel, solid head retention. Lengthy bitterness that gives way to a peppery spice that lingers for quite a while. The bitterness actually rules all on this one. Sure, the pine hits hard with a stinging attack but the bitterness rises above all. Rich mix of flavours wassssss more prevalent early on. What it lacks in depth it gains in pain. I crushed this.

3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 17/20
Aroma is spices, honey, caramel, pinecone, earthiness, and clove. Taste is your expected rye spiciness with a good balance of caramel and toasted grain. The hop profile is deep and potent but not overwhelming. Finishes spicy with some earthy aftertaste. Appearance is a cloudy amber with a medium pearl head that retains fairly well.
