Hazy amber colour. Slightly spicy caramel and brown sugar nose with a hint of hop herbaceousness. Very quaffable - heck, slightly watery - with a balanced Simcoe-toast-caramel character. Somehow I wish for more in this brew but thatís not to say I donít like whatís there.

3.6 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Bottle from Malt & Vine. Pours clear copper with a foamy 3 finger beige head. Aroma is malty/yeasty. Med + body. Flavor is roasty malt with some earthy and, perhaps, citrus hop. Itís hoppy enough to be tasty, and itís bitter enough to not be a typical amber. But itís malty enough to fall into the amber category. Drinks ok tho.

On tap @ Provisions Market. Amber/copper pour with a soapy off-white head. Aroma is huge pine and resin hop aromas. Caramel malt, grapefruit peel, and a bit of woody herbs. Nice. Flavor is a bit sweet up front with a strong bitterness to follow. Tons of pine, wood, herb, and resin character. Moderate grapefruit and some sweet caramel.

3.5 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
A reddish copper ale with a thick big bubbled off white head. In aroma, a rather nice herbaceous hops and caramel malt, and a bit of catnip. In mouth, a rich and malty ale with rich nice and smooth hops, floral and distinguished, rather British, quite good. On tap at Horse Brass Pub, Sept. 4 2010.

3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Deep ruddy pour with a thick white head. The nose is quite hoppy. Rich sweet malt but itís not cloying at all. A bit of resin and pine with a nice sticky resinous finish. Iced tea and a bit of sweet caramel which I normally hate but here it kind of works. Assertive bitterness.

UPDATED: MAR 13, 2013 Draft @ Double Mountain in Hood River. Cloudy rust colored body. Creamy sour and prickly red grapefruit, wood and nuts in the nose and front of the tongue, along with a touch of faintly sweet caramel. Hearty and full and rich. Tangy/spicy/oily/resinous. Wow. Wonderfully explosive resinous hops, amazingly fresh tasting. A masterful beer.

50cl bottle pours with a clear copper body that supports an inch tall light tan head of foam. The aroma has sweet sugary malts and some various light maltiness such as Pilsner, Caramunich and maybe others. Iím getting basically zero hops in the nose. Way at the end of a deep draw is a faint sweet fruitiness. The taste starts soft briefly with sweet malts, a bit of grainy malts, some Pilsner malts and then crumbs of biscuit like maltiness. The hops hit a moment later and seem to lean toward bitter Noble like hops as well as some pine, a light floral hoppiness, then a bit citrusy and spicy too. OK, all kinds of hops seem to come through in the taste. Interesting.
