Commercial Description:
The “IRA”, as it’s known around here, marries a ruby red color and rich body with the hop flavors of an IPA. Our unique ale yeast strain adds a delicious layer of complexity. One of the first beers we made, and an enduring favorite. Brewed with Gambrinus Organic Pilsner malt, imported crystal malt, Simcoe and Brewers’ Gold hops. 6.8% ABV, 55 BU

I tried this at Oregon Brewer’s Festival 2009. At bit too hoppy for me, but good tasting hops, and very good quality otherwise. Tasted very similar to 2 others I tried: Boulder Beer Flashback Anniversary Ale & Summit Horizon Red Ale.

Draught @ Paddy’s in Portland:   Reddish amber, slight haze, thin to moderate frothy off-white head, nice lacing.   Mealy nose, pale hoppiness, slight soil and earthiness.   Malty Pale is what this comes across as.   Clean.   Citrus tang on the finish.   Yea, malty Pale for certain.   Body and mouthfeel are moderate.   Tiz okay.   Wouldn’t mind if it was a little more Amberish (malty) and perhaps with a bit more sweetness.

tap at Henry’s in Portland, ruby/amber pour thin tan head, sweet aroma of malt with noticeable hop aroma, sticky malt/hop flavor with residual sweetness on palate, definitely "bigger" then any other red i’ve had!

Draft at Tapriver, City of The Dalles. I’ll take a straight-up IPA or an "ordinary" red over this. Red in color, woody in flavor. The citrus and malts didn’t quite go together for me and it came off as being a bit unbalanced. Not bad but I like their koelsch a lot more.

Pint at Sixth St Bistro in Hood River - Aroma has tons of crystal malts, caramel and resinous hops. Flavor matches with a bit more citrus hops. Palate is sticky and tart. Pretty tasty session beer.

4 oz pour at the Oregon Brewers Festival in July ’09. Nice and smooth with a bite. Good India red but not overly hoppy.

On tap at Double Mountain Hood River. Pours out a dark copper topped with a off white cream head. Aroma of citrus hops with a little orange bite. Taste was malt more of the citrus hops and a light bitter end. A fun mix up of the traditional IPA.
