COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
In Cologne, Germany, many a brewery produces a light-bodied ale with a delicate fruitiness and rounded maltiness, attributable to the unique yeast strain commonly used. Our Kölsch is unfiltered and more generously hopped than its German cousin. Brewed with Gambrinus Organic Pilsner and Munich malt and Perle hops. 5.2% ABV, 40 BU

Oakes (10191) - Gibsons, British Columbia, CANADA - JUL 21, 2007
Pale yellow, opaque. Light fruitiness in the nose with subtle pale malts. Rather harsh graininess, plus the dull, clunky Perle hops (should really have used a nobler variety) plus all the yeast (which lends a footiness) makes this not only a poor kolsch but an ineffective beer overall. Wish I had what Belmont was pouring!

Tap: Hazy yellow, light husk and a grainy malt note, more dusty notes; malt and hop. Light finish, decent body. An ok kolsch with an up front malt note but nothing much in the fragrant hop or yeast department.

GCBF 2010. we had a good laugh at my notes on this one. Clearly I was not impressed, and a little hammered when I penned my profound observations: "So many Kolsches are like this, fuck whatever, NOT A KOLSCH!" (1.7)

5000 (4106) - Hardened Liver, Washington, USA - JAN 3, 2010
Draught @ Belmont Station:   Straw in color, slight haze, lively carbonation, moderate foamy white head, nice lacing.   Soft straw/hay on the nose.   Somewhat peppery and floral on the tongue.   Backside has more of a hay/straw aspect.   Does become more cereal oriented as it warms.   Feels somewhat heavy for a Kolsch.   Body and mouthfeel are moderate, but maybe more malty than usual.   Lingering cereal aspects.   Not as crisp as others.   Okay, but not as refreshing as I would have hoped.
