COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Lulu was brewed in honor of the arrival of brewer Kyle’s second daughter, Love (pronounced “lou-vay”), and is the second in a limited series. This beer blushes with additions of hibiscus, pink peppercorn, and pink rosebuds. An earthen tartness mingles with floral and tangerine aromas, and a slight warming at the back of the mouth rounds out this saison. It’s good to meet you LuLu, welcome to the family!

Draught @ Brouwer’s Café:   Fiery amber, moderate to large frothy white head, fairly nice lacing.   Spicy pink peppercorn nose, hibiscus, perhaps a little rose petals.   Mainly peppercorns... cant tell if its floral or wheaty, barnish... dominates for this Saison.   Spicy on the tongue, pink and green peppercorn, even a little black pepper.   I can see hibiscus, perhaps the rosebuds.   The Saison is not really detectable as this one is a spiced ale first, perhaps Saison second.   Body and mouthfeel are moderate to full.   Feels good, a little chewy, but its all about the spices.   Finishes.... spicy, just as it started.   As it warms it gets to be a little medicinal and artificial in its spices.   Very interesting to say the least!

Draft at GABF 2013. Lightly hazed just-darkened gold body with a short head. Straightforward nose of peppercorn and soap and rose hips. I know that sounds like just repeating the ingredients in the description, but I took these notes on my phone inside the festival and said both peppercorn and rose for this beer as descriptors without knowing they were actually ingredients. I just ran up and got a sample and jumped back out of the way a few times. I didn’t pick out hibiscus but for me it’s probably wrapped up in my perception of rose. So there’s some makeup powder / cosmetics notes too, yeast chalkiness. Pale and amber malt flavor profile is simple but clean, sweetness about medium for American styles, there’s a lingering green leafy basil quality and the malt tends to get a little chewy / syrupy in the finish.

Draught. This is an odd bird of a saison. Its not bad but its also not stylistically typical. Some odd flavours going on here.

Draught at the brewery in Hood River. Nose has rust and tropical notes.Clear copper color. Tart and flowery initial, lots of sugary notes / mid is mostly a lemony tinge across the tongue / fina has a flourish of tropical fruits. Doesn’t seem peppery. Medium body, also tongue grabbing. An interesting take on the style. Unusual.

Sweet malt character with a touch of pepper. A very full mouthfeel with noticeable alcohol. I was expecting a slightly funky or more flavorful beer. Spices are masked and muddled. ---Rated via intercellular device

On draught at Horse Brass Pub. Light golden amber, almost with a tinge of pink. Aroma is slight yeast with floral and fruit notes. Flavor is farmhouse with light flower and honey notes. Peppercorn is hardly noticeable, not much spice. Nice saison overall.
