Molten is the most aggressive IPA in our little family, yet it somehow manages a great balanceÖ while still achieving full hop overdrive. This yearís offering is stronger than the last and features a more complex hop bill, with citrus notes dominating. Dry-hopped with enormous bagfuls of whole hop flowers, which provide added aroma and flavor without harsh bitterness. Watch out, this brew is deadly!

500 ml bottle. Murky lighter orange copper, lots of unappetizing big chunks, mostly fading off-white foam. Resinous citrus hop aroma, some c-malt. Initially quite bitter herbal floral hop taste, resinous, some spice, milder c-malts behind, softens and becomes more citrusy grapefruit as it warms. Average carbonation, medium-full bodied, more aggressively hopped. DNFL (Definitely Not For Lagerboys)

On draught at Saraveza for 5th Annual IIPA Festival. Golden color. Aroma is caramel and sweet citrus. Taste is sweet tropical citrus with a healthy backbone of malt. Quite hoppy and herbal, yet the malts balance it all out.

Appearance was clear orangish gold with lasting creamy white 2 finger head, rings of lacing. Aromas are citrus galore of orange, tangerine, pineapple, lemon and grapefruit with soft sweet pale malts, no alcohol. Taste was hops of tangerine, lemon, orange, pineapple and grapefruit. No alcohol with crystal and pale backbone. Palate was smooth creamy CO2 with medium body, then lasting smooth fruity bitter balanced finish. Just love the juicy hops there.

Bonus from a recent trade. Lots of pine and resin and grapefruit along with a thick malt body. Full bodied and viscous but them you get hot with some piney hops and are reminded that this is an ipa. Serious presence here. Much more malty but still really nice.

500 ml Bottle. Cloudy orange amber colored pour topped with sudsy foam. Aroma is a blend of ripe citrus, dried tropical fruit, pine resin and toasted malt sweetness. Taste opens with a shot of leafy herbal hops bitterness and orange rind along with some pineapple, lemon and caramel malt. A little bit of mint and pine in the finish round things out. Moderate carbonation and creaminess in the body. Lots of fresh citrus and forest floor goodness from the hops.

This is an enormous beer, and I would have given it 5 stars if it wasnít for all the floaties. The pour is absolutely disgusting...and I mean that in the nicest way possible. Itís hazy, thereís floaties, Iím sure Iíll have some severe gas ALL night long, but the head is white and thick and leaves a lot of lacing. I guess you can call it a light amber in color. Itís got all the good aroma characteristics, citrus, grapefruit, lemon, pine, it smells nice and pretty for the most part. Itís also got that bit of buttery pastry aroma that can only be had from Pilsner malt. Flavor is awesome. Hops and hops with a smooth bitterness backed by a sweet malt backbone...and not overly caramel like some. Iíd say this is three times better than Hop Lava.

Pours yellowish orange with a smooth head. Aroma of fruits, citrus, wet hops and pine. Taste is sweet, juicy hoppy and fruity with loads of pine, citrus and resin. Finish is massively bitter, juicy hoppy and sweet fruity. Quite hoppy DIPA.

I got this in a trade. The date on the bottle says March 20, 2014. It is stamped in white in the bottom left hand corner of the label. I poured this into a snifter. The appearance is a hazy orange to brown color with a one finger white foamy head that drastically falls and leaves a decent spider web coating of lace. The smell is pure sweet citrus, well amplified with powerful grapefruit and other tropical fruits. The taste is mainly sweet through the citrus. There is a slight grapefruit aftertaste leading to a dry citrusy finish. On the palate, it sits about a medium on the body with the right amount of carbonation invading my mouth and tongue. There seems to be a slight sessionable aspect to it as well. Overall, I say this is a well worthy DIPA of having again as Iím quite surprised seeing that it was made in March and Iím having it now. Could I have this with food? Quite possibly as I donít take too much notice to the 9% ABV. If anything, this is an exceptionally well done DIPA.

Bottle from LetsPour.com. Pours very hazy golden amber with a slight white head. Aroma is fruit/citrus. Med + body. Flavor is mild stone fruit, caramel moving on to citrus. Lots of hop, but not harsh. Finishes towards dry and very hoppy.
