BlackDonald (1040), North Carolina, USA Jul 19, 2008 Taproom - WOW! Hazy golden amber appearance, with a finger of white foam. Even though it sits on the coffee table in front of the couch I am sitting on, the hops are very apparent from a distance. Tempting you, drink me, drink me! Luscious fruit, from the meat to the rinds you can taste every aspect of the fruit here. Loads of melon, dare I say a faint hint of watermelon, citrus and grapefruit, just really fresh and juicy. Soapy resiny hoppiness with a stand up cookie dough maltiness. Aggressive and in your face, but still holds tremendous balance. Truly one of the best IPAs I have ever tried. This holds court with Dreadnaught.
Angeloregon (1891), Portland, Oregon, USA Jun 12, 2008 On tap at Bailey’s Taproom in Portland--Poured a luscious orange-amber body with a small rocky white head. Nose of tangy tropical fruitiness and citrus hop monstrosity. Bitter bite on the tongue, quite acidic, but necessary to tame the 9.5% ABV. I really loved this beer, but 20 ounces of this bad boy was all my palate and liver could take in one setting. DA (2419), Portland, Oregon City, Oregon, USA Jun 9, 2008 On tap at the PDX Green Dragon. Pours hazy orange with a soft white head. A big citrusy hop juice, almost chewy in its flavor, like a citrus candy, very sweet character up front, loads of aroma hops, but the bitterness wasn’t over the top. I really enjoy the IIPAs that build on this quality as opposed to the ones built on pure bittering hops that leave the palate beaten and bewildered. raphael (259), Portland, Oregon, USA Jun 8, 2008 On tap at oaks bottom. dimensional hop aroma, citurs without the harsh, honey, fresh wood.. golden but a little murky, quick head. lighter &thinner than expected. A taste like sprite but not as sweet, watery, a little pine, some alcohol. acrdz (4297), Boulder, Colorado, USA Jun 7, 2008 8oz pour at Green Dragon in Portland is cloudy but bright and soft golden orange with a finely bubbled, creamy but short white head. Intense nose of citric acid, pineapple, lemons, lime, mango, oranges, everything. It smells acidic and intensely bitter, and to test this theory I drink this beer, and believe it or not it’s acidic and intensely bitter. Hugely pungent, creamy citrus hop cones. Big and bold but not stupidly corrosive and unpalatable. Very nice overall, a definite hop bomb.
