This one poured a deep amber colour with a creamy/foamy, off white head. Scents include citrus, spruce, bread and spice. First swig was quite creamy with a load of medium level of IBU’s. Flavours of spruce hops and a little caramel are most predominant. Finish is quite bitter with flavours of spruce lingering.

Can - Sweet caramel and light spicy hops. Cloudy copper with a beige head. Light earthy bitterness with some caramel and orange.

Pours a clear deep copper with a fat finger of fluffy white head diminishing gradually to a thin cap and moderate lacing. Nose is dominated by rye and caramel malt, with little hop profile to speak of. Taste follows the nose, with spicy rye dominating the flavour, though there does seem to be a faint hop bitter in the finish. Moderate body and decent sustained carbonation, with no significant warming. Probably one of the better offerings currently available from NLLC. Well, except for Duvel, obviously. And Leffe. And Mad Tom. And La Fin du Monde. OK, maybe it’s being generous to say it’s in the top ten, but it’s not bad. I like rye beers, generally, and there’s no overwhelming reason not to like this one. There’s not a lot of hop character, but the rye almost stands in for the hops, doing double duty as both the grain and the bittering agent.

A great beverage. Nice rye bread aromas and flavors. Citrus and caramel flavors blend seamlessly. A bit of cat pee in there too. Good stuff.

473 ml can. Pours a clear amber with a mid-range beige head. Aromas are roasty rye malts, caramel, black licorice, earth, and some fruit. Tastes are earth, dry hoppy bitterness, leafy, and a little chalk. Medium body, sharp hop bite, medium astringent finish. Nice beer! ---Rated via Beer Buddy

Cannette 6.1%. Couleur ambrée foncée, mousse beige. Arôme de grains et céréales. En bouche, malt, seigle, un peu de caramel, un peu de houblons, finale sèche, pas trop sucrée avec une petite amertume. Très bonne.

Pours a rich caramel brown, very cloudy but no visible sediment. Smell is grain, caramel and a bit of floral hops, and the taste is about the same. The rye makes for a nice sweet start, and there’s a good bitter finish, but there’s nothing in between to hold them up. Decent and drinkable but lacking a certain je ne sais quoi.

Can from LCBO. Pours a hazy dark amber with a slightly of white head. Sweet rye bread caramel aroma with a touch of lemon. Medium body, medium carbonation. Good balance of rye, wood, lemony citrus and a light toffee sweetness - woody bitterness to finish. Good.

Slightly better than average beer, somewhat bitter and the roasted malt. A beer to have when nothing else around. OK drinkability.
