Qantelaar is the first beer of brewery "d’Oude Maalderij". 4 guys with a passion for craft beer founded the brewery in 2011.

Since then, we try to design and improve our recipes in order to create artisanal Belgian craft beers. The "Qantelaar" is created with 5 malts, a bit of candy sugar, 2 hops and ferments in the bottle. We use 30% more ingrediënts than a regular brown beer which gives it a great body and taste. We don’t add any herb, spice or chemical compound in the traditional Belgian brown strong beer.

Try to get a hold of it and enjoy the taste of what a good craft beer should taste like.

Dare to taste, learn to enjoy!

Hi, Qantelaar is an amazing new Belgian beer. Be aware, this beer is NOT a Quadrupel, as someone here under wrongly tried to believe us. The one (3th. bacth) I tried was still brewed at Maenhout. The 5th. batch, which is still maturing today is brewed at Gulden Spoor. I can tell you, his beer is a HIT !!! Such a dense flavour concentrations going on here. Malty rich, and pleasant roasty, perfectly in balance with the caramel malts and perfectly dosed hops. No doubt, a beer I can recommend with full of my heart ! TOP !!! But .... not at all a Quadrupel, this to be precise. Cheers, Filip

Edit: my rating was replaced for some reason, though it was a Maenhout bottle... Earlier Rating: 6/29/2013 Total Score: 4.1 75cl bottle. Batch 3. Shared with Mathieu87 APPEARANCE: pitch black beer, nice small beige head. NOSE: lots of chocolate, some coffee, little vanilla even, dark fruits noticeable, some liquorice even. TASTE: coffee, dark chocolate, again little liquorice. Very good Quadrupel! Really like this beer! But is this really a quadrupel? Reminded me more of a stout though...

Geproeft in brouwerij Maenhout (Meulebeke). Zeer mooie donkerbruine kleur.

Clear black colour, beige head. Aroma of roasted malts, coffee, liquorice, drop and dried fruit. Bitter roasted malts flavour, light hops. Quite light carbonation, light liquorice (drop) in the finish.
Nice beer, but wouldn’t call it a quadrupel, it feels closer to dubbel and stout.

DraughtFast gone yellow-beige head with a greenish sheen; brown-black beer. Liquorice, drop, bit coffeeish, dry smell. Dry, again coffee and liquorice, but with a nearly absent finish. Falls utterly flat - for a "quadruple"!! Tinge of sourness, CO². Falling flat to an empty finish - just some retronasal cocoa powder. A "quadrupel", deprived of aftertaste? D’uh!

28/IX/2012 - 75cl bottle @ official launch of the beer - bottled: 25/VIII/12 - batch 001 (2012-1063) Thanks to Jef for the invitation!

Little cloudy dark purple brown beer, aery to creamy beige head, unstable, bit adhesive. Aroma: some dried fruits, caramel, red berries, some ripe banana, touch of mocha. MF: ok carbon, medium body. Taste: some chocolate, caramel, ripe banana, little bitter, dried fruits, bitter hint, mocha, some overripe fruits. Aftertaste: chocolate, ripe to overripe fruits, some alcohol, bit sweet, lots of caramel on warming up, dark chocolate. Very decent beer, with a lot of ageing potential!
