COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Douglas Celtic Brown is a real Scottish ale, rude as its country of origin, mysterious as the legends and as generous as the inhabitants.

Nice looking deep amber/chestnut colour, with creamy off-white head. Nice lacing. Aroma has chocolate, caramel and dark fruits. Now, I like that (live tasting in progress). Very rich, substantial body; malt, chocolate, caramel, sweet, nice bitter finish. A better beer than its average score suggests. Excellent.

clear bright ruby-brown colour, giant foamy head, beautiful lacing, earthy, strong notes of chocolate, some dark fruits and nuts, very sweet and malty, oily with a decent bitterness, long warming alcohol finish showing notes of prune and licorice - I can’t help but like it ! (it’s more a scotch ale than a belgian ale imho)

Bottled. A deep, rich brown coloured beer with a thin whitish head which hangs around forever. The nose has rich chocolate and a certain wet woodiness. The taste is very rich with a full bodied melange of malts, peat, chocolate and alcohol. A really tasty lovely beer.

Bottled 33cl. It pours a beautiful dark ruby beer with a small tanned head. Lively carbonation. The nose is of alcohol, bread, nuts, berries and butter. Rather strong and malty. A hint of whisky. Malty taste with quite a lot of alcohol. Sticky palate. Rather sweet and pleasant. Very lightly smoky. Some fudge, berries and butter showing up. A very nice touch of plum purée which can be found in this Ale. Medicinal. Beautiful lacing. Grassy flowery finish with a hint of fennel and plum purée. A lovely beer of its sort.

Bottle 33cl. A dark-amber beer with a nice head. This quite sweet beer has a huge malty and caramel aroma, very pleasent as the beer is well balanced not too alcoolic, not too malty and sweet.

Aroma: Intensely aromatic. Sweet, very sweet. Caramel, raisins, dry plums, coffee and yeast (smells like belgian dubbels) on the nose. Mouthfeel: Light, almost watery. Taste: Sugary and alcoholic, like a belgian dubbel, but lighter in body. Not ulike a cognac in character. I quite like it. Slightly fruity (grapes?) and a firm balancing bitterness in the background that fades quickly. Finish: Spicy and sweet, long lasting aromatic notes. Overall: Very nice strong beer. Not unlike a Belgian Dubbel.

33 cl bottle. No yeast at the bottom. Dark brown colour with a nice head. Lovely aroma of sweet caramel, oak and very malty too. Also very malty flavour with a strong toffeness and some alcohol, ends up bitter and tasty. Very suprisingly.

(Rating #388)
