On cask at the Chandlers Arms Shearsby. Traditional Porter nose of strong hops but not overpowering - hints of chocolate. Very dark beer with a strong off-white head with good retention. Stong chocolate malt taste to begin with which finishes with a good dose of hops. Pleasant on tthe pallate. A strong beer, ideal warmer for a cold evening.

Cask/gravity at GBBF 2011. Black with brown tinges anfd a coarse beige head, chocolate and roast coffee on the nose, the palate is initially vinous and coffee, then drying yet with a milk chocolate overlay. Mid bodied rather than full, and a faintly milky roast coffee finish. Champion winter beer of Britain 2011

UPDATED: SEP 24, 2009 Bottle from The Wine Cellar labelled, ’Dowbridge Porter’, 4.5%. Jet pour with dirty beige suds persisting solidly. Nose a bracing waft of coalsmoke, ozone and surprising black cherry and bramble beneath the carbon. Slippery and flat but suited, cream more than lace clinging to the glass. Could use a tickle more fizz. Plenty more charred barley smokiness building with cocoa and coffee, lingering like a nicely burnt stout. Excellent dry roasty porter.

Cask at the Squirrel, Rugby - 25/07/12.
Dark brown approaching black with a thin off-white head.
Roast malts, licquorice, leather, wood and a touch of chocolate on the nose.
Taste expands from the nose with a dry bitter sweet aftertaste.
I enjoyed this, it had bollocks and a decent body, not like some of it’s over watery siblings!
