Bottled. Not dark but mildly delightful. Some sweet malts, some dry finish, just lacks a depth that would make this feel more assured.

Cask @ The Priory Arms. The pour’s deep brown with a small off-white head. The nose is light red berry, general roasted malt aromas. Some chocolate, fresh cream. The taste is light lactose, rich carmel, milk chocolate. Hints of red fruits. Slightly roasty, bitter finish. Light body, a bit thin. Overall, a decent stout. Serviceable stuff.

UPDATED: JUN 17, 2008 500ml bottle at Microbar, Clapham, 8th Jan 08, with tashi. I must have been drinking a different beer from everyone else! Pours a dark brown with a lacy off-white head. So far, so good. Aroma is a mix of yeast and the kind of chemical aroma I’d expect from a cheap lager. The flavour is tobacco and bad lager malt. Palate is weak. Dire all round! I think I’d better seek out the cask version. (Score: 3/4/4/2/7) Re-rated, at home, 17th June 2008. A bit better- malty aroma still somewhat dull, appearance same as before. Sugary malt, with hints of treacle, toffee. Bit of grassy hops to balance. Palate still a bit watery.
