2.9 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 11/20 Ethereal (2399) - Los Angeles, USA - JAN 13, 2008
UPDATED: JUN 17, 2008 500ml bottle at Microbar, Clapham, 8th Jan 08, with tashi. I must have been drinking a different beer from everyone else! Pours a dark brown with a lacy off-white head. So far, so good. Aroma is a mix of yeast and the kind of chemical aroma I’d expect from a cheap lager. The flavour is tobacco and bad lager malt. Palate is weak. Dire all round! I think I’d better seek out the cask version. (Score: 3/4/4/2/7)
Re-rated, at home, 17th June 2008. A bit better- malty aroma still somewhat dull, appearance same as before. Sugary malt, with hints of treacle, toffee. Bit of grassy hops to balance. Palate still a bit watery.
