COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Cask; Regular (as Honey Blonde). Also available bottle conditioned (as Chimera Honey Blonde).
A golden straw coloured bitter. A superb blend of spicy and floral hops, added to the smooth sweetness imparted by Flaked Maize and Mexican honey, make this a beer that never hangs around for long! Champion Beer at the Alton Beer Festival 2008, and also available in bottle.
Honey Blonde is a light and refreshing blonde/golden ale, with subtle hints of honey and softly sweet malt. The finish is crisp and refreshing.

(Cask at Priory Arms, Stockwell, London, 7 Aug 2010) Pale golden colour with brief, white head. Fruity, slightly malty nose with citrus and honey. Fruity, floral taste with notes of citrus and honey. Light body, fairly sweet with low bitterness. Definitely drinkable but hardly exciting.

Bottle that’s been in the fridge for over a year. Very lively when opened, had to pour in two goes. Clear, light gold with big and persistent head. Floral aroma. More flowers in the taste, with honey coming at the end, leaving a fairly well lasting light bitterness. Very tasty and refreshing.

Pint from cask. Pours a lively golden yellow with a fair head and an unfortunate but not overpowering smell of rotten eggs. Quite effervescent. A touch of honey on the taste, but bitter and not sweet. There are some difficult to place, ever-evolving notes. Perhaps bacon, a touch of flora (not the brand!) and a handful of raisins - stewed in Perrier water. A definite honey aftertaste though. Interesting, not outstanding.

50cl bottle from the Home Brew Shop, Aldershot. Unfortunately I didn’t read Druncan’s review before opening this, because it behaved exactly as he described. Still I managed to get most of it into a pint glass in the end.

The end result is pale straw in colour with a billowing brilliant white head; there’s a light musky, grainy aroma; it’s rather thinly bodied with a mix of citrus, honey and herbal flavours; and a clean, crisp, grassy finish. Rather good.
