COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Cask: Regular - 6.8% & Bottled: Unfiltered - 7.0%.
A traditional India Pale Ale, brewed with a hugely increased hop rate for a strong, floral aroma, and a powerful, bitter taste. This award winning IPA is seriously drinkable, but deceptively strong…. not a beer to be taken lightly! Strong, hoppy and refreshing. Bursting with hoppy resin flavours and citrus, this is an IPA with a bite. Light enough in flavour to be refreshing for the summer, yet strong enough to be warming in the winter.

Bottle. Pale golden beer with a strong smooth head. The aroma is strongly dry and fruity and the flavour is deeply dry and bitter with a vinous malty quality. Overall a good beer.

UPDATED: FEB 20, 2009 Bottle Picked this up in Langton Matravers Dorset, June 2006. I was so impressed with this beer that I had to stop at the brewery on the way home. I met with the young chap who runs it and picked up half a dozen bottles of this stuff.. Warm golden colour, small white head, hoppy aroma and a great hoppy taste. This beer has the most incredible bitter finish that lingers forever and a day. Had a bottle of this sat outside my tent drifted off for forty winks and could still taste the beer an hour or so later. Really loved this beer! (Bottled version states 7%ABV) A7 A4 F8 P4 OV18 4.1 Had this beer again 17-02-09 came in a mixed box from Beers of Europe. Pours warm gold, I love the bitterness of this beer, its not harsh or brash but its there and in abundance, I see it as a very British bitterness. This is every bit as good as I remember, and has to be one of my all time fave UK IPA’s. Great stuff and still a worthy 4+ scoring UK beer, no change to my original score.

Bottle. Pale orange colour with a slim and steady white head. Nice hoppy aroma. Hoppy taste, nice big bitter finish. Some honey sweetness throughout. Slight alcohol warm at the end. Medium to full bodied. This is my sort of IPA, very drinkable, lots of tasty hops, decent amount of alcohol - very nice indeed.

Bottled. Very strong hop presence which I enjoyed although some people would find overpowering.Very sharp bitterness and not as smooth as some IPA.s.But none the less a very nice beer.

Pale orange color, not much head. Aroma is strong sweet honeyish with flowery hops, even some molasses. Medium-bodied. Sweet with honey and cookies. In the finish good hopping which carries long in the aftertaste. 7/2/7/3/12 3.1

A very light tasting and feel to this stong beer.A good IPA but the hops were not that pronounced. Easy to drink to much. I liked it a lot but its not a knockout IPA.

[Cask at GBBF 2005 - listed as Chimera IPA with the same ABV] A hazy orange beer with a small white head. The aroma is sweet hoppy - a bit too light for my liking. The flavor is sweet and rather hoppy with a dry grassy end.

Cask conditioned, GBBF 2005: This one was also called Chimera like most other Downton beers. Quite soapy and very mild. No particular bitterness. Slightly fishy.

Cask @ GBBF 2005: Golden coloured. Clear. Off white head. Is herbal, hoppy, light fruity and has a light citric in the aroma. Flavour is sweet and fruity with a light hoppy touch. Alcohol is notable, but not dominating. Ends on a light bitter note. Good one.
