Originally offered as a Christmas special, this old ale has proven to be a favourite all year round. Distinctive chocolate and orange flavour notes work excellently against a rich, hoppy background.

Pigs Ear. Clear dark brown beer. Good sized pale cream coloured head. Light smooth palate. No carbonation. Dry. Very dry! Smooth dark chocolate - powdery. The fruit is saccahrin sweet and is err - apple! There is a little orange as well! Dry finish. Too dry and way to appley!

Scopey (3252) - Croydon, Greater London, ENGLAND - MAR 29, 2012
Cask at Wandsworth Beer Festival, March 2012. It pours deep amber-brown, with a decent white head. The nose is Terry’s chocolate orange, caramel, toffee and chocolate digestive biscuits. The taste is caramel, chocolate, charcoal, roasted malt, leather, wood, ash and orange Jaffa cake, with a dry finish. Medium body and soft carbonation. Not nearly as sweet and sickening on the taste as you might expect. Good balance. I liked it a lot.

Cask @ Nag Head. Pours clear deep dark mahogany with a small tanned head. Aroma is roasted malts, some chocolate, citric and dry. Flavor is much like aroma, thin body and good bitterness. Finshes bitter roasted.

@Royal Oak, Twerton. Medium brown. The aroma is like a chocolate-orange candy from the drug store. Mix of Hershey’s syrup and fake orange. Bitter towards the finish. Do not like. Dreadful stuff.

Cask at GBBF 2010. A pitch black beer with a thin brown head. The aroma has notes of sweet and roasted malt. The flavor is sweet with notes of malt and caramel, as well as lighter notes of roasted malt.

Beershine (5173) - The Sunshine State, Florida, USA - MAR 13, 2011
Cask @ Royal Oak, Bath. A tawny color, not quite opaque but mostly brown orange hue. Scant head with slight lace. Aroma of filled chocolates. Is soft and mellow and not as candylike as expected, or as the name suggests. Just a nice citrus-orange dash with milk chocolate surrounding it. Soft palate. Nice roasty finish with delicious chocolate character. The orange is just in the right quantity. Flavors blend and go together really well. I understand this could have been a potential disaster. But it’s mellow and the concept is well-executed. I could pint it.
