Cask (Angleterre, Helsinki)
Day 2: Massively grainy aroma, but also pretty sharp - crisply hoppy. Decent carbonation. Just so crisp and tasty. Yes it’s simple, but it’s perfection in simpleness. There’s plenty of lightly roasted grains to balance the hops, but it’s the hops you’ll be paying attention to. Great aromatic finish.
Day 3: Slightly mellower, losing some of the bite, but still very tasty.

Cask at Wellington Arms, Bedford. Copper amber with a small off white head. Rusty roasted malt aroma, rough and rather good, like an old fashioned piecrust or treacle sponge pudding. Oily viscous taste, with malt and nettles. Mid bitter finish. Very good.

Cask & handpump at O’Briens of Brentford. Pours a deep amber with a frothy, reasonably long-lasting head. Lots of floral hops and some biscuity Ovaltiney malt on the nose. Full bodied for a bitter, with a crisp hoppy bite that stays on the palate for ages. Delicious at the first taste, but drinking it became hard work as the pint progressed!

Cask-conditioned at the Royal Oak, Bath 5/10/08. Deep amber in colour with a decent, off-white head. Earthy malt and floral hop aroma. Flavour started sweetish, with some fruity malt, grassy hops and a short, bitter finish. Ok.

Cask at the Bricklayers Arms, 10th August 2008. Unappetising hazy amber colour with a subsiding lacy head. Grassy hop aroma is ok but the palate is flat and the flavour bland.

Cask at the Market Porter in London. Floral aroma. Amber color with a nice off-white head. Thin to medium body. Mild carbonation. Rather floral/herbal flavor. Finishes balanced. Bitter builds in the finish. Gets better with time.
