Cask at Wellington Arms, Bedford. Amber. Malt aroma, but quite strange: hints of cardboard, MDF and compost. Rather better than it sounds. Similar woody taste. A little bitterness. Unusual; you wouldn’t want this every day, but it’s quite interesting.

A Mes rate: Cask at the Wenlock. Slightly hazy copper with a slim white head. Heavy tobacco aroma with slight malt and hops but the tobacco takes centre stage. More caramel malt in the flavour initially with some pleasant wheaty notes and a lovely bitter finish. Drinks above its strength but still very sessionable.
3.3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20 imdownthepub (7491) - Banbury, Oxfordshire, ENGLAND - JAN 20, 2008
Cask conditioned at The White Lion, Fewcott, Oxon. Amber with white head. Sweetish malty bitter with a dose of dry caramel, toffee like and not really light enough to be a session bitter. Heavy on the palate, reasonable.
