3.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20 jackl (2547) - London, Greater London, - OCT 29, 2012Gravity @ Wandsworth Common Halloween Beer Festival. The pour’s deep brown with a small off-white head. The nose is big roasted grains, some chocolate cake, mild lactose and hints of coffee creamer. The taste is slightly tangy sweet blackberry jam, more chocolate cake, roasted malts and wood. Coffee beans, toasted buttered brown bread. Supple, big body. Lightly oily. The alcohol is hidden very well indeed. Overall, a very solid effort. Well-made stuff for sure. Tasty, but perhaps lacking in the superlative flavor that would really push this into the top tier.

Jan 2013 - draught. Sweet smokey and intense. Good body. Hides alcohol quite well and is not too sharp despite the 9%. It’s an OK sipping beer and a good beer of its type but I found this one quite sickly.

3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20 Leighton (6921) - London, ENGLAND - NOV 25, 2012
Cask at The White Horse Old Ale Festival, London. Pours black with a fine, brown bubble head. Tangy dark malt nose. Medium sweet flavor with light licorice, bittersweet cocoa, moderate charred malt roastiness. Medium bodied with fine, soft carbonation. Bitter, oily cocoa finish with very faint warming alcohol and earthy bitterness. It’s decent, although I’m not a fan of that tangy edge some British imperial stouts have.

Cask conditioned at Egham Beer Fest #13. Black with tan head. A big heavy beer, masses of liquorice and coffee on the palate but tending towards tartness unfortunately. Tangy, roasty but a struggle for me, I didn’t really take to it.
