Suttree (2355), Knoxville, Tennessee, USA Jun 4, 2003 First things first - Downtown Brown? Is this the best name they could come up with? There are no fewer than 7 "Downtown Browns" in the data base as it is, and this is the eighth. I mean please, show a little creativity, guys. That being said, this is a really good brown ale - a style I usually don't care for. Brownish red, with a thin white head. Fresh malt aroma. Consistant hop profile thoughout the palate. The malt is there, but only in the bacground. If you must quibble about style, this propbably is to hoppy to be a true English Brown, but isn't really overhopped, either. Very nice beer. hotstuff (3045), Indiana, USA Dec 26, 2003 Draft at Downtown Grill & Brewery in Knoxville, TN. A small sized tan head with fine-small sized bubbles that were mostly diminishing. The body of this beer was uncarbonated and transparent with a reddish-brown hue. The nose was sweet and malty. The flavor was caramel and malt with a bit of an aftertaste to it. The mouthfeel was very, very smooth and slightly thin. This was a medium bodied beer with good lacing. thedm (3406), Fort Wayne, Indiana, USA Dec 20, 2003 TheDM and Hotstuff vacation brew 136. This draft brew was sampled at the Brew Pub in Knoxville Tennessee and served by an attentive staff that included the Owner, the bar manager, Daniel Goss, and the assistant brewer Joey Barbarito. This brew poured a head of fine to medium sized mostly lasting bubbles that left behind a transparent uncarbonated brown colored body and a good lace. The aroma malty nutty sweet mild and nice. The flavor was that of a very nice caramel brown malt that disappeared quickly but was nice while it lasted. The mouthfeel was smooth sweetly malted and had no bite. I like this brew a lot and it was very nice. So nice that the bar manager brought me a second glass for free! Thanks Dan! nearbeer (1336), Knoxville, Tennessee, USA Aug 8, 2007 Draft at brewery. Clear dark brown-copper. Earthy, dry cocoa and spicy molasses aroma. Toasted nut initial flavor, with a dry cocoa and British yeast finish. Palate is light-medium, dry and astringent. jewedekind (450), Middleton, Wisconsin, USA Nov 23, 2004 A nice clear brown beer with a slight to invisible head. Slight aroma of nutty malt. Fine taste of chestnuts and biscuits, with a bit of roasted flavor. Fine but lacks a bit of body.
