A fair example of a stout, but it’s the IPA of stouts. The malt flavor is almost entirely killed by the hops in this beer.

Draft, sampler: great looking brown with a tan head. Chocolate and coffee aromas and a great sweet flavor that finishes roasty.

On tap @ Downtown Grill & Brewery. Near black/darkest brown pour with an ample creamy tan head and very good lacing. Roasted malt aroma with a light cocoa and very light coffee. Taste is very smooth, from the oats addition, with a toasted bread and malts flavor, not strong, and cocoa and light coffee. Nice stout, not overly astringent.

Draft at brwer. Pours a jet black with a tan head. Scent is roasted malt and chocolate. Taste is big coffee with roasted malt. Drawback was the water like feel.

On draught at Downtown Grille, Knoxville on 8 July 2006. Black. Quite light bodied. Smooth, creamy oat character comes through strongly. Not that sweet. Pleasant but seemed a little underpowered to me.

Pours black with a creamy tan head. Roasted malt and chocolate aroma. Dry bitter coffee-like taste with a roasty finish. A little thin.

Growler sample at Noogfest High 5. Poured black with a thin tan head. Aromas of coffee and dark chocolate. The flavor is much the same with some roastiness. Medium body.

aroma and taste some spices, caramel malts, chocolate and possible toffee. Light roastiness with a small bitter hoppy finish. Light notes of coffee and grains in the finish.

Sampled at Noogfest High 5. The body was black with a light brown head. The aroma was coffee and molasses. The taste was lightly tart coffee with some blueberries. I found this one to be a pleasure.

Had this with the Downtown Grill & Brewery sampler. It was good but compared to the others, it was a step down. A little to strong for my tastes. But certainly not bad.
