2.5 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 9/20 Cobra (1079) - In a van, down by the river, Maryland, USA - JAN 25, 2008
Draft at Dremo’s. Poured out a reddish brown, with red highlights at the edges. Off white head, somewhat soapy. Aromas are of roasted malts, more a weak stout than a brown ale.
Flavors are of roasted malts, yeasty bread, some biscuit malts. Hops are present, but subdued. Thin body and mouthfeel. Hid the alcohol well.
3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20 radagast83 (2408) - Fairfax, Virginia, USA - MAR 31, 2007
Draft at Dremos. Dark brownish color, with small creamy head. Aromas of roasted nuts with a hint of chocolate. Perhaps like most SBC beers they can be hit or miss, I thought this one was really great.
2.4 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 8/20 hopscotch (7535) - Vero Beach, Florida, USA - AUG 12, 2006
Bottle... Cloudy, burnt orange ale with a small, frothy, off-white head. Good retention. Roasted notes of pecans, chocolate and maple syrup in the nose. Also, a bit phenolic (bandage). Thin, lightly acidic, gently bitter flavor. Terrific balance, but bland. Light-bodied with a fairly crisp finish. Thanks to growler for sharing the bottle!
3.2 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20 scraff (2120) - Baltimore, Maryland, USA - MAY 23, 2006
Tap at SB Co. - Rusty brown, thin white creamy head. Soft floral nose with roasty, nutty, and chocolate undertones. Flavor was similar with earthy hop notes to boot. Light to medium bodied, light carbonation, drying, nutty, mild chocolate finish. Drinkable, but nothing special...
3.9 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20 Nuffield (3087) - Roseville, Minnesota, USA - SEP 17, 2005
Gosh, I’m going to go against the grain. Hazy, moderate nut brown color, another beer of theirs that comes out undercarbonated, though it just so happens that I don’t think that’s a problem--it’s nice relief from most American beers in bars (including brewpubs) that are way too overcarbonated. I liked the basic flavor components, nutty, some suggestion of hops peeking through, caramel, and candy. Quite satisfying. (on tap at Dr. Dremos, Arlington, VA)

Brown. Nose is quite sweet. Good malts, caramel and peat, some molasses as well. Mildly hoppy at the end.

Light brown and opaque. Aroma is very sweet molasses. Flavor is molasses, raisins, and a hint of chocolate.
2.9 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 11/20 SeamusNeko (45) - Anacostia, Washington DC, USA - APR 29, 2004
Setting: Served on tap at Dr. Dremo’s in a pint glass.
Appearance: Clear medium brown topped by a smallish light tan head that dissipates to a scanty film and wee ring after a few sips. No lacing at all.
Aroma: Light bready malts, faint whiffs of anise and candi sugars.
Flavor: Sweetish caramel malts with a modicum of hoppy bitterness. Mild toasted malt flavors, too.
Palate: Light to medium in body with short-lived aftertastes.
Overall: Eh, this ain’t too bad, but there are better beers available at the place where you can get this, among them Brooklyn’s Brown Ale.
3.3 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 13/20 jgb9348 (3496) - Arlington (Pentagon City), Virginia, USA - DEC 4, 2003
Slightly hazy brown colour with a thin tan head! Aroma of soap, strong nuts and a fair amount of malt! Tastes of malt, nuts and a fair amount of sugars. Aftertaste shows some bananas and subtle maltiness with predominiant malt. Overall, a better than average brown-impressive for someone who doesn't like the style! I bought this twelve ounce bottle at Shenandoah Brewing Company in Alexandria, Virginia and sampled it on 21-November-2003.
