3.9 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20
Draft, Millvale Brew Fest.....ridiculouly long line, but well worth it. Super tropical fruit with light citrus notes and a slight funk. Straw colored, almost golden, with a haziness, but the brewer said it’s conditioned in kegs and bottles. The flavor is reminescent of a slightly tart apple cider, with a mild citrusy honey sweetness. Very intriguing and enjoyable. These guys are making a mark in the local beer market and the line at the festival was the proof....well worth the wait.

2.7 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 12/20
Finally another DL, yeah! On tap at the bocktown, nice place. No real apparent aroma, surprisingly no volatile fumes for nearly 10%. And, its fairly easy on the palate. quite civilized you would never know this is 10%. Hides the alky really well, reserved and almost sessionable. On the uptake, it seems more like a 4% domestic beldgy. After a few, you now know its a tenner, wew, dizzy baby. Well done DL on this beldgy wannah bee. Its reserved and with manners, good job! Nice domestic attept at a real trippel.

12 oz bottle from The BeerHive in Pittsburgh. Many notes of floral and citrus with a pronounced tartness. Could easily fall into the cider category. One can appreciate the uniqueness of this very nice selection.

3.8 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
UPDATED: JUN 11, 2013 Sampled on draft at the House of 1000 beers this beer poured a slightly hazy yellow-golden color with a small foamy white head that left decent lacing. The aroma was sourish and tangy apple and pear. The flavor was sweet and tangy table sugar, candied apples, pear, a touch of apricot and bread dough. Long sweet and tangy candied golden fruit finish. Moderately full bodied. The alcohol was well concealed. Quite nice.

Starts and stays sweet with light bubblegum, yeasty notes, and a hint of honey-sugar tang. Notes of cherry wood in the finish, with sweet after. Mild warming. Nice ale, fruity.

3.6 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
Squat bottle from Frank Smith;s. Pours turbid orange with 1-finger off-white head. Nose is huge tangerine, orange zest, hops, star fruit, funky yeasty esters of the type not aforementioned. Tastes heavily tangeriney, with big orange zest, hops, some funk, and a lot of caramel malt. As an aside, the labels on these beers rule, and until I saw the brewer, I assumed these were brewed by T’Smisje, which is a huge complement for these guys. This one kicks ass.

2.1 AROMA 4/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 3/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 9/20
Ugh..at 9.5% ABV I’d label this a Belgian Strong rather than just Belgian. Regardless this is a muddled mess. Aroma was weak. Light apple, spice and heavy alcohol on the nose. Pour was a nasty dirty light brown with no head. Looked like dirty dishwater as it was poured. Taste was way too sweet. Apple, pear and alcohol are the dominant flavors. There is a mild spiciness to the beer and some sugary sweetness but all of this is all competing for attention and tastes too jumbled. I can appreciate what the brewer was trying to do, but that alcohol heat is just too strong and the sweetness is way too heavy. Nice carbonation for the style.
