COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Off-red in color with a fluffy, long-lasting head and full aromas of fruit, bubblegum and spice. The caramel backbone of the malty body provides the deception of fullness, however, the finish is dry. The delicate citrus and distinctive bitterness intertwine with the warmth of alcohol and deep rum tones, finishing with a hint of cocoa. Simon Girty becomes more intense at room temperature and may be cellared for up to five years. A very different beer for those brave enough to try. Simon Girty....the person: One of the most pivotal and controversial figures in American history, Simon Girty, primarily through savage guerilla warfare, fought for what he believed to be right. He was noted as a “turncoat” and most often referred to as the “White Savage”. His bravery, courage and reputation, made him a common household name throughout the colonial period. Girty’s Run, which is a tributary of the Allegheny River, was named after Simon. The stream travels directly through the heart of Millvale and was once his passage way to the north. In honor and as a sign of respect, we have developed this beer for the free spirited individuals like Simon. We hope this minor tribute is enough to show our respect...Enjoy!

On tap at Sharp Edge Beer Emporium. Pours a dark amber brown with a thick light tan head. Aroma of light fruits, raisin, sweet malt. Flavor of sour malt, diaper, yogurt, sweet malt. Good Belgian, slightly sour akin to a light Flemish red, and fruity. 7/4/7/4/14 (3.6/5)

Bottle thanks to Dan. Pours a cloudy reddish color with a large white head. A big fruity nose with oak and tart cherry. The flavor is mostly dry, tart, cherry and yeast. Some sweeter toffee and caramel. Berries. Quite oaky. Lively palate. Good. Unique.

750 mL bottle from the brewery. Pours a hazy dark brown color with a thin tan head. Fair head retention. Weak aroma of caramel malts, stone fruits and a bit of chocolate. The taste is caramel, nutty notes, raisin, stone fruits, spice. Medium bodied, low carbonation. The commercial description says I have to be "brave" to try this. Mmm... no. I’m tempted to deduct a point for their pretentiousness, but I’ll refrain. It’s actually a decent beer.

UPDATED: AUG 28, 2014 Sampled from a 12 oz brown bottle this beer poured a very dark brown color with a large soapy-creamy tan head that lingered and left good lacing. The aroma was sweet bread, toffee and plum. The flavor was sweet and tangy raisin, toffee, caramel, brandy, toasty malts and a hint of cream. Long finish of raisin, toffee, brandy and cream. Moderately full bodied. Quite nice.

12 ounce bottle pours an amber color with aromas of light fruit, some rasins, spice and some malt. Flavors are the same, rasins with some spice followed by some malt. Decent beer overall would drink again.

Bottle thanks to beerman6686, thank you!. Pour is deep, hazy, quad-like brown with a small patchy beige head. Aroma is light brown-sugar malt, faint spice, and and light fig. Flavor is deep spicy sweet malt with hints of toffee and faint cocoa. Not getting much orange in this. Faint alcohol presence. The finish is long with lasting sweet toffee malt and deep earthy spice. Really full bodied and full flavored. Flavor exceeds the aroma. This was a nice surprise, very tasty. Thanks again!

Squat bottle from Frank Smith’s. Pours turbid chestnut with tan head and refermented shrapnel at the bottom. Nose is dark fruit, velvety malt of the scotch and vienna variety to my nose, brown sugar, cherry, fruitcake. Tastes smooth, rich, very complex, with flavors of dark fruit, vienna malt, earthy notes, caramel, cherry, mint, and a complex finish. Yet another great beer from these guys. Like a poor man’s Westy 12.

12 oz bottle luckily found on the upstairs cave shelf at The Beerhive in Pittsburgh. My new favorite, and how fortunate to make the discovery of this wonderfully awesome ale. Almost too complex, but not overdone on anything, you’ll find yourself thinking just what the hell is in there that makes it so damn good. Instead of saying "Have a Sam Adams" switch on over to the better patriot and say "Have a Simon Gurty" instead.

Dark brown, tan cover Aroma is cocoa, but then it sort of clashes with an estery belgian yeast, sweet malt and orange peel. Taste is more citrus, chocolate, like those chocolate orange candies. More esters. I like the concept but the yeast seems to overpower the beer.
