Pours a reddish black with a small wisp of a tan head. Artificially sweet beginning, with phenol, corn, caramel, and light bitterness in he slightly metallic finish.

Medium brown body. Opaque black body goes deek dark red at edges. Roasty candy alcohol aroma with chocolatey notes. Light boy. Mild, soft mouthfeel. Sweet-bitter earthy papery chocolatey aftertaste with dusty notes. Mixed bad, I’d say. (0.284l bottle, Sainsbury’s, London.)

I definitely remember this beer from Jamaica, but I must of forgot to rate it. A quite nice stout, a fair amount of chocolate to it. Really, between this and the Jamaican Guinesss, you’re much better off than with Red Stripe. Just drink stouts in the hot sun!

Metalchopz (1173) - Quebec, CANADA - OCT 6, 2010
Originally rated October 2004. Sampled from a small 300ml brown bottle. This beer is from the makers of Red Stripe. Poured a black colour with very small brown highlights. Head is brown and dissipates fast enough, leaving some lacing (but not much). Aromas are the strongest part of this brew. Roasty, creamy. A good mixture of coffee and molasses with some fruits thrown in. Taste is farely sweet with hints of bitterness. Chocolat mixed in with milk (or cream). Good that they make it in a small bottle, being on the high alcohol side (7.5%).

Pours dark brown with a light tan head that leaves a persistent lacing. There are strange aromas in the nose. I can place bread, roasted malt and burnt rubber, but then there’s something else; maybe a mix of molasses, apple and vinegar. The taste is very sweet, very malty - but not roasted, more like steeped barley. Again I get that mix of apple and apple cider vinegar. There’s also an off-putting boiled rice taste. The body is thick with a low carbonation. It finishes with the malts and not much else. It’s a careless beer.

The taste is not what I expected. I’d call it a timid to smooth taste. Not as rich as I would expect I guess. Aroma is stout with a hint of metal even though it came in a bottle. No chocolate or coffee notes. More of a brown sugar. Not bad at all though. Yet far from the great ones. But, to come out of Jamaica and a stout...fighting a warm weather all the time... B grade from me.
