This is the ultimate Belgian style. The very high gravity of this beer is balanced by the smoothness of its finish. Banana and Clove aromas come from the Belgian yeast strain combining with the generous dose of Belgian Candi Sugar. The Saaz hops help to give this beer a balanced bitterness with no noticeable hop aroma.

(En fût à Sport Shotz Detroit Airport): Très gazé et mordant d’épices, gingembre et éclats boisés. C’est puissant, asséchant et engourdissant pour la langue tellement les épices sévissent. L’ensemble est cohérent malgré l’intensité.

Bottle from the rotter. Pours with a HUGE white head; hazy orange pour. Nose is very strong in peppery phenolics. Taste is lightly sweet, some honey, finished with a light alcohol warming. Overall good but a tad to sweet and lacking in esters. Too much pepper.

Bottle, Ann Arbor, MI via Plum Market. Deep gold, very little head. Strong yeast aroma with alcohol and banana. Thick, sweet, balanced with hops and honey battling for position. Sweetness wins out in the end. Maybe too sweet for me in the end but nice nonetheless.

Wonderful Triple. Clear golden color with a white head. Aroma of banana and pears. Complex flavors of banana, pears and Belgian candi sugar. Nice balance that masks the 10% ABV.

Bubble gum flavor to that Belgium kick. Dark yellow color. Nice fruit ripe banana scent, but also odd plastic. Sweet but not overdone. Coats the tongue in sweet. Tap

Poured from a bottle. Aroma is fairly ester forward with some nice pear and stone fruit notes. Some lighter banana with medium light clove phenolics. Light alcohol spice. Some light malt notes with toasted bread and caramel as well as some burnt sugar. Pours a clear, golden copper with a medium sized, fairly thick, slightly off-white head that steadily recedes. Low lacing and moderate legs. Flavor is fairly sweet with a lot of caramel, candi sugar and toasted bread. Moderate esters with a lot of pear and stone fruit and some lesser banana and red apple. Medium light clove phenolics. Some light alcohol spice in the finish. Medium light bitterness. Mouthfeel is medium to medium full bodied with medium carbonation. Low astringency and low alcohol warmth. Overall, an alright trippel. Nice yeast profile with good malt notes as well. Alcohol is well hidden.

Guest tap at the Detroit airport Gordon Biersch. poured a hazy orange accented gold, very little head. Aroma of thick pale malts, orange marmalade, some Belgian yeast spiciness. Flavor was a match. Felt thick on the palate, definitely a good bit of sweetness residing. Needed hops to cut this down, or more yeast spice, either one. This aspect was also really hurt by the very low carbonation level - a higher level (much more in keeping with the base style) would have helped cut through things a bit as well. As it was, it came across as the usual American train wreck you hit with this style. Too bad, I had wanted to like this.
