MrBunn (892), Western, Pennsylvania, USA May 27, 2007 Bottle. Appearance is a dirty strawish gold color with lots of haze and a fairly large fluffy head that has died down after a couple of minutes waiting for Microsoft to get its act together and let me on to the site here. In the meantime I’ve been enjoying subtle aromas of banana cloves and yeast with an underlying sugary sweetness. First impression is that the flavor is OK. I’m not doing cartwheels, but I’m not making funny faces either. There is a bit of a tart quality that I didn’t see coming. Other than that, the alcohol is definitely present, but not too obnoxious. The sweet sugars and clove flavorings are all there. Sadly this just doesn’t finish out quite as nicely as I would have liked. I’ts not bad, but neither is it great.
WeeHeavySD (1865), San Diego (Hillcrest), California, USA Sep 30, 2008 12oz bonus from masonjer. Pours orangy yellow with a tan head. Nose is sweet with citrus notes. Taste is sweet, yeasty, citrussy and highly carbonated. Overall a very enjoyable and not alcohol hidden trip. frankenkitty (1798), Oak Lawn, Illinois, USA Sep 30, 2008 Not much to speak of by looking at it (grit-hazed caramel-colored body under a wisp of a head), but BOY the power that comes out in the aroma! Fruity esters boil down to recognizable overripe banana, apples, pears, grapes (fruit cocktail) with caramel backing. Flavor is tart and tangy (or is that saying the same thing?), a little thin-bodied to carry what I expected to be more lush, fruity flavors. Fruity sourness in an alcoholic finish with light grapeskin astringency. Tasty and mind-altering, but I’d sooner grab a Sapient if I was seeking out a Michigan-brewed Tripel.
I think I remember stealing this bottle out of some selections that ElBorracho brought to a Fais Do Do last year. Thanks Scott!
Magjayran (1157), Durham, North Carolina, USA Sep 8, 2008 Golden color with a small white head. Dense head. No lacing. Tropical fruit aroma. Smells sweet. I pick up pineapple, orange, and cantaloupe. Not as fizzy as I’d like it to be but still pretty lively mouthfeel. Solid beer. Mr_Stitch (138), Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, USA Sep 3, 2008 Bottle. Pours a cloudy orange with a huge head that leaves quickly and stays as a nice thin blanket. Smell is bananna bread. yeast, and zest. Taste is very nice... it’s almost like bananna bread beer to be honest. I think that is the only way that I can discribe the taste of this beer. Mouthfeel is a bit thin without enough carbontaion. That aside I really like this beer and would definitely recommend it. gearbike (373), West Bloomfield, Michigan, USA Aug 21, 2008 On tap. Very different smell and taste. Sweet smell give itself to a bubble gum taste. Tangy alcohol presence. Complex which is different from the usual straight laced triples.
