A Russian Classic! This stout is extremely big. Thick and malty, this stout is created with six-row barley as well as roasted, Chocolate and Caramel malts. The E. Kent Goldins hops do not quite take up all of the malt sweetness. You can’t see through this beer but you can see how just a little goes a long way.

UPDATED: MAR 11, 2015 Tap @ Dragonmead: Black-hole black with just about no head. Roasted malts, burnt coffee beans, mild licorice, bittersweet cocoa, and some residual sweetness in the aroma. Malty bomb with lots of coffee bean, anise, licorice, and chocolatey sweet flavors on the palate. Slight ashy and leafy in the finish, mildly bitter from the intense roast. Oily, not as thick as I want it to be. A "safe" RIS. Not bad, though.

Majority of 6 oz. pour, on tap at the brewery’s taproom in Warren, Michigan. Consumed on 9-26-16. Dark brown, light in color for style. Small amount of light tan head. Nice chocolate and lightly to moderately roasted malt aroma. Malty flavor. Chocolate start and roasted finish. Quite pleasant. Lively in the palate. Medium body, light for the style. Not a great imperial stout, but a good non-imperial stout, which, by contemporary standards, is what this is.

Pour on tap at the brewery, thick brownish black pour with tan head, aroma brought notes of dark chocolate, roast, hints of chewy dark fruits into a bit of coffee, slight caramel into a bit of grassy hops. Taste is a mix of dark fruit, toffee, caramel, some roast, coffee, nice dark cocoa, finishing fairly sweet, slightly bitter.

Growler pour. Pours black with a brown head. Roasty cocoa aroma, creamy, with a touch of anise. Cocoa roasty coffee flavor, a bit smoky. Not all that complex, but pretty good.

On tap at Dragonmead Brewpub. Midnight brown with a thin tan head. Aroma of roasted malt, coffee and some sweet chocolate and licorice underneath. Taste of dark-roasted malts, chocolate, mild coffee and mild alcohol. Semi-chalky on the finish.

Sample at the brewpub. Pours brownish-black with a medium beige head that dissipates steadily to a film. Small patches of lacing on the glass. Aroma of roasted malt, coffee and molasses. Medium body with a roasty character of malt and coffee. Notes of mild hops and brown sugar in the background. The finish is charred malt and coffee. Decent, albeit lighter Imperial Stout overall.
