COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
This spiced winter warmer makes for great sipping. Jul Ol is brewed in the tradition of a Norwegian dark ale. It is spiced with cinnamon and nutmeg. This ale is only available in December and January.

Winter 2003 on tap. Light fruit aromas in the aroma - brown pear, sweet cherry, maybe some allspice. Pours an almost-translucent mahogany brown, some deeper reds in there as well. Begins with a lightly sweet fruity malt. Some clove makes itself known throughout the beer and the finish has a touch of mild hops. Texture is mainly smooth and watery, but some brown sugar graininess right away. Alcohol not detectable, moderately carbonated, very clean and sweet, but not challenging at all. Good if you are looking for a light, sweet, beer. Reminded me of a toned down Old Fezziweg. Almost no head, decent lacing.

On tap at the Dragonmead Brew Pub. Poured a deeper brown color with a small sized off white head. Aromas of lots of spices - nutmeg, ginger and cloves. Some cinnamon as well. Tastes of the same spices. This one was all about the spices which drowned out anything else.

I am a fan of Scandanavian style beers, a good variation onthe Belgians spiced and dark. This was brown with some lace. Like a barleywine and old ale. Didn’t get that much of spice, but there is clove and ginger and cardommon thrown together. Enjoyed at the brewpub. Carbonation and mouthfeel they got right.

Tap at brewpub. Pours a clear rusty, coppery color with a small of white head. Aroma is spice, nutmeg, clove, ginger. Flavor is spicy too, pepper, cinnamon, ginger, cardamon, clove. Palate is smooth and medium bodied. Nice holiday brew. Worked for me!

Tap: dark red/mahogany in color. Nice spice aroma of nutmeg/clove/cinnamon. Strong spiced ale taste. Smooth crisp body. Very good winter drink, just can’t drink more than one though.

On tap at the brewery. Garnet red color with a thin off white head. Strong spice nose with lots of ginger and oragne peel in it. Lots of holiday spices in the flavor with cininmon, clove, ginger and others. A little spice burn on the tongue. I found enough of a malty beer base to support all the spices. I enjoyed this holiday treat.

Tap. Deep brown color. Almost no head. Huge spice aroma. Hard to discern individual spices but perhaps cinnamon and clove stand out a little. Clean tasting. For me the spice overwhelms this beer. It is decent but overwhelms me.

cask-conditioned at the brewery. looks like a brown ale with a touch of cinnamon or maybe clove added. cask version had significant head, lots of malt presence with a touch of spiciness. very fun winteresque beer, but not spectacular.

The nose is predominantly malt derived ... but there is a hint of some spiciness (cinamon, cove, ginger, all spice?) Dark brownish amber in color ... crystal clear and looks thin when sloshed in glass. I really am not sure what style of beer this is. They called in a Norwegian Christmas beer. Malty and spicy, I can see why. I would like to try another one on Christmas ... and every other day in between.
