medium brown large white head. moderate carbonation. a little bitterness up front followed by somewhat indiscernable spices, that aren’t immediately identified as traditional pumpkin pie spices. the spice lies in the background, without much else to the beer. flawed recipe
3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20 Silphium (2718) - East Lansing, Michigan, USA - OCT 17, 2005
On tap at Dragonmead. Mostly clear orange body, medium light tan head. Typical pumpkin pie spice aroma, with nutmeg, cinnamon, etc. slightly thin, cinnamon body with nutmeg and light bready notes and an earthy, rather chalky finish. Somewhat thin. Nothing special, I’m afraid.

On tap at the brewery. Orange amber color with a foamy beige head and a big nose of pumpkin pie spice. The smell reminded me of mom’s pumpkin cookies. Taste of cininmon, clove, pie spice and a white sugar sweetness. Palate is so dry you can almost taste the powder of the spices. A little light in body, and not enough beer here to support the spices. But I still like this style for an Autumn treat.

Wonderful smell... outside lambics, this is the best smelling beer I have had. The flavor, like most fruit beers, does not do it justice, but it is not bad.
2.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 10/20 ClarkVV (3578) - Allston, Massachusetts, USA - OCT 30, 2003
UPDATED: JAN 6, 2006 Light orange color, little head, not terribly cloudy. Aroma has lots of spice and a touch of malt. This is another heavily spiced pumpkin that concentrates more on spicing than it does on the rest of the beer. Has more body and slightly more malt profile than Buffalo Bills pumpkin, but still, the spicing makes for a dry almost astringent flavor, while there is little else to taste here than the spice.
3.9 AROMA 10/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20 Inveigler (371) - Ferndale, Michigan, USA - NOV 21, 2002
This beer deserves every bit of its "10" aroma rating. But, then again, I am a sucker for all those pumpkin pie spices - ginger, clove, etc.. Some hints of malt, and surprisingly, alcohol. Smells warm like grandma’s kitchen. Dark orange color that holds the light well. First sip ... plenty of body behind those spices, a little heavier with the hops than anticipated. This beer started out phenomenally. But, it got a little dry towards the end. Still a great beer for this time a year.
