heemer77 (3634), Savannah, Missouri, USA May 15, 2008 Dark brown body with a khaki head. The aroma is rich caramel with some toast and black tea. The taste has some rich notes of black tea and toffee. There is also some light quality tobacco. A well made and fairly strong tasting ESB that is a little on the sweet side. Pretty rich. Pours a nice full brown orange with a little bit of white/tan head. Not overly clouded, but has lots of sediment floating around. Begins fairly malty and quite sweet, with a good amount of honey. There is an awkward transition from malt to hops and the finish, while there are some bitter flavors is still predominantly malty. Medium body though has some watery problems. Good soft fruit flavors typical of this brewery. A strange sour/metallic taste is too detectable on the finish. If this had some more fuggles it would be outstanding. Muddled nutty/hoppy aroma, with some caramel hints. The 3 on the palette is being liberal. Tmoney99 (3503), Cincinnati, Ohio, USA May 2, 2008 Bottle from Belo Vino. Poured a clear deep amber with an average rocky off-white head that diminished slowly with fair lacing. Medium sweet malt and hoppy aroma. Medium body with soft carbonation. Moderate bittersweet flavor with an average bitter finish of medium duration. Silphium (2006), Lansing, Michigan, USA Feb 22, 2006 Hazy deep copper/orange-brown body, medium tan head. Earthy aroma with floral hops and toast. Chocolate biscuit flavor, perfumey, and earthy, maltier than most ESBs with a strong toasted character. Sharp prickly carbonation. Appropriate complexity. Not a bad ESB. sliffy (1951), Columbus, Ohio, USA Mar 1, 2007 Bottle shared by bgburdman: Amber color with a big off white head. Aroma, buttery, some caramel, and spicy hops. Flavor, odd fruitiness, some caramel. Medium bodied, with a earthy, floral bitterness on the end. Not my thing.
