4.9 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 10/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 20/20 nefarious (220) - Waterford, Michigan, USA - FEB 9, 2009
Growler from the brewery. Subtle nots of the usual stout atributes.....roasted malts but also a slight creamy cereal note to it. Oh, Thick black pour to it with a nice tan head. WOW this one really stands out!!!!! It really tates like chocolate and not the usual bitter chocolate but actually milk chocolate! It so rich and creamy but not even the slightest bit too sweet. Oh and it soooooo thick on the palate.....and just ever so slightly at the end does the coffee and malts come out. Truly a wonderful surprise. I was not expecting it at all. i will kill this growler by myself tonight. Amazing

UPDATED: DEC 20, 2007 Not much to say except this stout has a nice creamy consistency with some sweet chocolates. Starts off sweet and as it warms a bit you can get some bitterness.

black with thin white head. very sweet aroma like whipping cream, vanilla even? definitely don’t see the coffee presence that other raters have noted, but aside from being a little too sweet, this was a very good stout.

I seek out these chocolate stouts, and this one was no exception, driving through sleet and bypassing sidelined cars to get to this brewpub. A chocolate and lactose aroma, a brown milkshake in appearance with lace. Bold carbonation and bittersweet chocolate.

Draft... Black ale with notes of milk chocolate, espresso & cream in the aroma & flavor. Perfect balance. Very chocolately. Full-bodied and oily with lively carbonation. Finishes chocolatey and dry.

most of the chocolate stouts i have tasted usually have a coffee flavor. well this one escaped that and i went one step over. this is truly a chocolate stout and a good creamy texture. when you are feeling the need for something different mix this with the raspberry wheat. turned this into a very good dessert beer. i loved it...but then taste in in the buds of the beholder. i was very happy with this beer

On tap at the Dragonmead Brew Pub. Gotta love the name. Poured a medium brown color with a small sized off white head. Aromas of chocolate, lactose, and some coffee. Tastes of chocolate, vanilla, some roast, lactose and coffee. The milk chocolate was definitely there.
